Description
Autumn is our favourite season here at Ferntree Lane Retreat. With crisp mornings growing into warm sunny days, we have the perfect weather for exploring the beach and the bush. Our newly panted fruit orchard is growing, and our vegie patch has a selection of herbs, parsley, basil, carrots and tomatoes to pick and enjoy.
We have also created our own Facebook page - Ferntree Lane Retreat - which you can 'LIKE' to receive specials and news of upcoming events in the area.
THE HOUSE
Morning sunlight streams in the north-east windows of our eco-designed 2 bedroom house. Locally sourced sustainable timber provides the new floors throughout our open plan living area, with a cosy wood fire heater to enjoy. Doors open out to our verandah overlooking your private lane and yet more bushland, with BBQ and outdoor seating under cover to enjoy regardless of the weather.
BEDROOM
Restful sleep is assured with such a secluded location, deluxe wool futon mattresses and organic cotton bedding. With a king bed in master bedroom, double bed in second bedroom, and single bed and sofa bed in the lounge area, we can cater sleeping requirements to your needs. No need to overpack your suitcase, as bedding, linen & towels are provided at no extra charge.
KITCHEN
Our kitchen is modern, and fully equipped with all you need for a relaxing meal with family or friends. The wood fuel webber BBQ on the deck makes a great pizza oven, or grills fish nicely.
BATHROOM
Our bathroom is also modern, with a bath tub for the kids, and all water sourced from our on site rain water tanks.
CHILDREN
Our own children delight in staying here, and we are happy to cater for yours. Kangaroos and wallabies are friendly, coming right up to the door. A sprinkling of our wild bird seed on the veranda railings brings in parrots, pigeons and doves to hand feed. A springfree netted trampoline is situated just outside the kitchen window, and our handmade swing set not far away. In the house we have a selection of handmade and wooden toys, books and board games. We have a fire safety guard in place, no stairs to negotiate, and we can provide high chair, pram etc as needed - just ask!
ECO FEATURES
As an emerging eco-retreat, we are proud to provide all water on site from our rain water tanks, which is filtered and recycled on to our gardens. Our solar energy system generates power for the house while feeding the excess into the grid. As we recycle all water on site, we provide all eco-friendly cleaning & laundry products for your stay.
Our property is currently at the planning stage of a complete make-over, inspired by permaculture and organic design principles, as Troy has recently completed a certificate in Permaculture Design. At this point we are happy to offer organic herbs and flowers for you to pick, along with the option of ordering a 'local organic breakfast hamper' to await you on your first night's stay. In the near future we are aiming to create a compete 'local food / local culture' inspired experience for our guests. More information regarding this is available during your stay at the house.
THE GARDEN & BUSHLAND
Four private hillside acres of coastal woodland are yours to enjoy. Amongst the yellow stringybark and silvertop ash you will find abundant species of birds inlcuding king parrots, wonga & white-headed pigeons, spotted pardalotes. Goannas bask on the rocks, kangaroo families grazing right to the doorstep, curious possums and yellow bellied gliders can be heard chattering in the evenings.
Our garden is child friendly with a netted trampoline and swing set hand made with timber from our property. As you are located on a private lane, there are no busy roads or traffic to worry about.
A short stroll down the lane brings you to Horseshoe Lagoon, with ducks to feed and yet more birdlife. Opposite this lagoon is the entrance to Bournda National Park. Walking tracks here lead you through coastal wood and heathland to the ocean, just 3 kms away.
THE SURROUNDING AREA
We encourage guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and creative emerging culture of the Sapphire Coast. We are located just 4 mins drive to Tathra Beach & Cafe strip, 20 mins scenic drive from Merimbula township & airport (with connecting flights to Sydney & Melbourne) & 40 mins drive to beautiful Bermagui.
Natural attractions include:
> Tathra Beach - just 4 mins drive from our retreat, this lovely beach is patrolled in summer with a great playground, skate park & cafes
> Kianinny Bay boat ramp, great snorkelling, access to coastal walking tracks
> Bournda & Mimosa Rocks National Parks
> Mumbulla Creek Falls (stunning waterfall and freshwater swimming hole)
> Surfing, fishing, sea-kayaking, canoing, bike trails, etc
