Description: SAN GALLO is a truly beautiful and comfortable farm cottage within the outstanding historic property called BERGAMO HOUSE. It is nestled amongst vineyard, olive- and chestnut grove, century-old trees and garden. Noted as a key property of the first substantial agricultural settlement of Italians in Australia, BERGAMO HOUSE dates from the mid-19th century. The surrounding landscape is hilly with a lovely mix of vineyards, pastures and bushland, totally tranquil and reminiscent architecturally and scenically of the ancient farmlands of northern Italy.
An extensive network of undisturbed country lanes, many of them sealed, and old bush tracks invite to hike and bike, whether to explore the northern fringes of the Wombat Sate Forest or the many remnants of the districts rich history. All surrounding country towns like Daylesford, Castlemaine, Maldon, Clunes, Talbot and many more are of particular interest and easily accessible, each being only an easy 15 to 30 minutes drive away.

the original drawcard was the nearby castlemaine arts festival but San Gallo was so relaxing and beautiful we needed to spend just one day in castlemaine and enjoy our weekend together in such a picture perfect cottage. Bern and Gerhardt had thought of everything . A walk around the countryside was so scenic and felt remote yet only a few minutes from galleries and cafes.amazing hosts and a place we will definitely return to..

We had the most relaxed time at the very tranquil San Gallo cottage. Gerhard and Bern have done an amazing job keeping the property so beautiful and natural, and it is just a joy sitting on the decking watching the birds and the goats in the fields beyond. Unfortunately we missed the little tour that Gerhard gives (we were just being too lazy) so we will have to come back!

A well designed, quirky, neat, well stocked cottage for a peaceful get away. The scenery and historic cottage provides good headspace. A third bed is available if required. A good sized kitchen with pots, pand etc provided to cook your own meals if you desire. It's only a short trip to towns such as Newstead, Maldon, Castlemaine, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. If you are into horse riding then the owners take you on a great ride around the locals hills and bushland (and it's better than a usual trail ride).

We had a glorious time in this beautiful timeless spot. It is full of history, and interesting creatures and quiet. Our only regret is that we missed the blossoming trees in the orchard.

If you are looking for accommodation that provides a genuinely relaxing experience with a real difference, then we highly recommend San Gallo Cottage in Yandoit. Quiet & very peaceful, beautiful & scenic, unique & quirky, something really very special. The area it self is full of rich history, & as you make your journey through the Yandoit Hills to San Gallo, amazing stone remnants of yesteryear appear at every turn. Then suddenly a village upon a hill that includes Bergarmo House & San Gallo Cottage. This place is truly a hidden secret!! The accommodation is simplistic yet practical. The decor cute & creative. Open the front door & you hear the tranquillity of the spring fed stream as you sip on some local wine. Heaven on earth! Gerhard the host was very friendly & accommodating, not to mention a wealth of information about the history of the property & the area. We truly enjoyed our stay & cant wait to return again soon!

We were looking for a place to totally get away from the city and chill out and we certainly found it at this wonderful place! The 1860's cottage has been restored beautifully retaining its character and then some due to the addition of a rich collection of the owners artwork. The slow burning wood fire ensured we were perfectly comfortable during the cold winter evenings. The additional thoughtful touches of a pantry stocked with those ingredient essentials you typically forget as well as the generous offer to be taken around the property and hear about its facinating history made our weekend a cut well above the average get away. Oh yes...and our dog also had a ball!

Beautiful and relaxing cosy weekend. The hosting was welcoming well beyond our expectations - genuinely friendly, interesting and really thoughtful. The combination of natural environment and sense of history is truly unique. The fruits from the property, seeing olives being picked and verbal history on the house, cottage and area were great extra touches. We'd recommend to anyone looking for peaceful timeout. (Our dog enjoyed it too!)

Can not recommend this highly enough for those who like quiet retreats. This was a truly perfect match for what we wanted - an authentic, historical property where we were very well catered for in every way. The house is filled with character, style and has more lovely little touches than I can describe here. We enjoyed the art, the log fire, the gorgeous scenery and the peace. After a very casual yet fascinating tour of the grounds with the owner, we then popped into Daylesford to grab a bottle of wine. Perfection!

We absoultely love San Gallo. Just like stepping back in time and experiencing the region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The cottage itself is simple but extremely comfortable. Gerhard is a great host and as well the perosnalised tour and history lesson,we were able to harves tand roast fresh chestnuts.
We will return.

Fantastic hospitality, thank you Gerhard for making our stay so relaxing and special. Beautiful area; cosy, warm and comfortable cottage. We couldn't have wanted for anything more. The ride through the hills and bush made it even more special.
We'll be back for those olives next year!

We had a wonderful time at San Gallo, it was an idyllic property and the cottage itself was everything that you could ask for. The owners were friendly and helpful, even to the point of picking fresh herbs for our dinner.
We hope to get back soon, and would recommend this place to anyone.
Thanks again for a great weekend!
