Description
This family friendly beach shack is located only 5 minutes from Swansea at Dolphin Sands on a 9 acre block of pristine natural bushland.
The shack is set back slightly from the road and is surrounded by mature Gum and Banksia Trees. Wildlife abounds with Black Cockatoos, Kookaburras, native bats, possums, echidnas and wallabies all frequenting the propery.
Access to the secluded Nine Mile Beach is by 2 different access tracks - one 200 metres from the shack - this track is very well maintained and very easy walking. The other is about 50 metres from the shack. This track is narrow and a bit of climbing is needed - but as you head down to "Frogs Hollow" you will see that the effort was worth it.
Accomodation/facilities
Whilst it is a shack it has all the comforts of home. The shack can accomodate up to 5 adults and 2 children. The master bedroom has a queen bed, a kids room with caravan sized bunk beds and a large bunkroom with a double bed and loft bed. The bathroom has an in bath shower and there is a seperate toilet. The lounge room has a built-in fire place TV, DVD player, stereo with CD, radio and MP3 plug.
The fully self contained kitchen has a wood stove, bore and tank water supplied at the sink, servery bar, gas stove/oven, fridge and microwave. Dining room and table adjacent.
An undercover entertainment area sits between the house and the garage. This is a carpeted area with see through roofing which allows in the sun. Each end of this area can be opened up to the outside in summer which lets through a cool breeze. In winter the fire can be lit and the doors closed to make a snug and warm entertaining area large enough for two families.
All bed linen, blankets and doona's and bath towels are supplied, but you will need to bring your own beach towels.
Things to Do
Being centrally located on the East Coast, most attractions are within an hours drive of Dolphin Sands. These include the World Heritage listed Freycinet National Park
Maria Island, wineries, Kates Berry Farm and the Spikey Bridge are all within easy reach. If you are up for a surf, or are looking for some crayfish, Bicheno is only 40 minutes north.
If you are a keen fisherman, Great Oyster Bay, which is bordered by Nine Mile Beach has excellent fishing, with Flathead, Whiting, Trumpeter and Bream plentiful. Launching sites are at either Swansea, Yellowbanks Road or the river mouth at the end of Dolphin Sands Road. The garage at the shack will easily fit a trailored boat for storage when not in use.
There are 2 adult bikes and 4 kids bikes at the property so do what the locals do and go for a ride. Head to Cambria Drive and pull into the last access track. Leave the bikes at the end of the track near the beach. If the tide is low you can walk into Swansea for an icecream via the beach - it only takes 20 minutes. The shells at that end of Nine Mile Beach are amazing.
Or drive into Swansea as it is only a 5 minute drive away. It has some great resturants that cater to all tastes - heres a link that has up-to-date reviews.
Swansea also has market days. The markets sell local produce, arts and crafts.
It may be a small town but it does have most things that you may require including General food stores, chemist, Doctors Surgery, newsagents, knick knack shops and speciality boutiques.
If it's relaxation you need the shack has dvd's, plenty of board games, jigsaw puzzles, cards, books to read or music to listen to.
There's lot's of room inside for the kids to set out toys or play board games and not get in the way. They will find lots of outdoor fun as well, such as - shooting hoop, bocce, badminton, bike riding and hidy in the bush.
For those interested, there is abundant wildlife on the property, with plenty of tracks through the bushland to see birdlife/wildlife etc in their natural habitat. The most active times being early morining and late afternoon.
