Description
Experience the Art of Great Ocean Road Living. Your private retreat, embraced by the sound of the sea.
Sea Zen is a newly completed luxury studio, inspired by Japanese elements, designed for couples who want the ultimate romantic getaway on the Great Ocean road. Separation Creek is part of Wye River, deep in wilderness, rugged and remote from busy towns.
Pamper yourself in the steam shower, with herbal aromas. When you can take no more, slide back the shoji screens, slip into the spa and have your skin tingle with a million tiny bubbles. You can slide up the windows and be surrounded by the soothing sound of the sea, or stay in your own private sanctuary.
In winter there is a warming wood fire, the windows are double glazed and you will be snug inside.
On the balcony, relax and watch the waves with a drink. You may be visited by some Crimson Parrots, or sometimes Black cockatoos visi1t the trees nearby. The rare Rufus Bristlebird is a common visitor in this quiet hamlet. If you are lucky you will hear the sound of a Koala grunting in the trees nearby.
For couples who like to take their pet away with them, we are pet friendly. Small dogs by arrangement.
Our guests say:
"We were blown away by the steam shower and ocean views from the spa! - Kate"
"Truly a 5 star experience - Cathy"
WINTER SPECIAL - Stay 4 nights midweek for the price of 3.
Applies for stays May - Aug, 2013
THE BEACH THE FIRE THE FOOD
In summer the sand is a lazy one minute stroll away, a quiet beach known just to the locals, a kilometre from the popular Wye River Beach. Enjoy a surf in the vigorous waves or just loaf on the sand.
If the mood takes you, grab a fishing rod from our rack and try your luck off the rocks for Whiting or cast from the beach for Salmon.
Go for a wander along the beach to the township of Wye River. Enjoy a sensational coffee at the famous Wye River General Store and try the locally cooked cakes. Our favourite is the Polish Donuts, a recipe passed to the baker from his grandmother.
You might buy a freshly baked French baguette and some Goats cheese and bring it back to Sea Zen for a simple lunch with wine on the balcony.
You might read a book on the day bed looking out to sea, or just unwind and have a snooze.
In winter there is a wood fire, the windows are double glazed and you will be snug inside. You can go for a bracing walk on the beach or curl up on the couch with a glass of wine. Enjoy one of our inhouse movies or watch one of the latest movies on Foxtel.
For those who like to stay connected there is free wireless internet.
If you like to cook, you have your own well equipped kitchen.
At night you might like to dine out at the Wye Beach hotel which has fabulous pub food. Our favourite is the Mauritian curry. There is a good selection of local beers like Prickly Moses and the local ciders are worth a try. The view from the pub balcony is one of the best views on the Great Ocean road.
In summer, the Wye General Store also does evening meals. Lorne is just 20 minutes away for a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and hotels. Our favourite is the very popular Chopsticks.
The Wye General also does a relaxed breakfast and lunch. Visitors come from Geelong and Lorne just for the drive to a sensational Brunch.
THE ART OF GREAT OCEAN ROAD LIVING
The Art of Great Ocean Road Living involves making the most of the fabulous Great Ocean Road itself.
The road in both directions from Separation Creek is the most spectacular part of the Great Ocean Road, high above the rocks below.
Any excuse to travel the road will be rewarding. Every trip is a different experience: different light, different patterns of waves, different sounds.
Our Information pack gives you our tips for the best places to see and things to do. Some popular trips are as follows.
One day you can get up early and drive the road to the12 Apostles and enjoy a coffee in Apollo Bay on the way back.
A shorter day is the Otways loop. Head to Apollo Bay, buy a lobster or two for dinner, visit Maites Rest forest walk and return via Turtons Track forest and waterfall drive.
You are guaranteed to see Koalas in the wild at Kennett River on the way. Living at Separation Creek, you will often hear one or see one, when they choose to show themselves!
If you have a week you can visit the Otway Fly, Lake Elizabeth platypus, the Forrest Brewery, the waterfalls, the Lightstation or other gems hidden away in the Otways. Places like the Redwood Forest are secrets known to few - we show you how to get there.
For walkers, the Great Ocean Walk has a series of day trips and overnight walks. The Apollo Bay Visitor Information Centre has updates on local conditions and attractions.
.
We suggest you make separation Creek your base for 3 days, or more if you can. Pamper yourself for a while. You deserve it.
