Description

Kookaburra Hill is a contemporary architect-designed solar passive house on 5 acres - just a stone’s throw (500 metres from the gate) to Kangaroo Valley village. See availability on calendar at the bottom of the home page - this is updated regularly.

The house is set back far from the road (200 metres) and a thick gum forest means you do not hear anything. You feel "away" from it all and can wake up gazing at Wedding Cake Mountain and the restuful country mountains and valleys.

It has a purpose-built 3-bedroom self contained guest accommodation with a private entrance which is part of a large country house. It sleeps between 2 and 6 guests (plus a cot) who have Kookaburra Hill for their exclusive use. The accommodation and the main residence are under the one roof but are separated by a hallway with 2 locked solid doors and are quite separate with different entrances and no common areas or facilities. The suite has its own reverse cycle ducted air conditioning/heating and hot water systems. Families and children are welcome - come and stretch out and enjoy the quiet solitude and acres of lawns and natural bushland. Or the solar heated in-ground salt water pool with stunning mountain views from the water.

Special rates are offered for families with children ($30 per night) and discounts are available for familiies with teenagers staying for a week in the school holidays - see tariffs on website. A 4-night mid-week package is offered at the weekly rate and senior card holders are offered an additional 5% discount off this package.

Kookaburra Hill has luxury bedding and linen in two queen and one twin single bedrooms with crisp sheets, fine goose-down or wool duvets and large towels. The full bathroom has a corner spa with views of the olive grove. There is a living room with deep sofas and TV/ DVD/ video and a kitchenette with small oven, microwave, refrigerator and all you need to prepare and serve meals. The outdoor guest dining area, next to the pool, has a great gas BBQ and mobile refrigerator. The garden features more than 200 old fashioned roses as well as irises.

Prepare breakfast from a basket of delicious produce, including eggs from resident hens, "Burrawang" bacon, home-baked raspberry muffins, Berry sourdough bread and fresh ground coffee. Dine indoors, BBQ in your private alfresco dining area or stroll to a restaurant. Guests are invited to pick fresh fruit and vegetables as available.

The property has pet ducks, chickens and three adorable Welsh Mountain ponies who love a pat over their fence and the littlest mare loves to come out and meet children and their parents on the front acre of lawns.

House-trained dogs are welcome. An outside kennel is provided. Small and medium dogs may visit with you in your living room with its stone-lined floors, but cannot access carpeted bedrooms (a doorway barrier is provided) for the protection of future guests. Stroll to dog-friendly cafes and drive to dog-friendly beaches. The front 2 acres of park-like lawns are perfect for dogs to enjoy their marrow bone arrival present and it is great for dog owners as these acres are securely fenced which wraps around to include the guest suite entrance and outdoor dining area. Three acres of natural bush land at the rear of the house is for you to explore but is not open to dogs for the sake of resident poultry, ponies and wildlife.

Guest Reviews

  • "Our family had a lovely time at Kookaburra Hill. The apartment was very comfortable and had all the little xtras that make a difference. We were all spoilt by the yummy goodies left for us to eat. Our dog had a lovely time romping in the huge front garden and munching on the bones Pamela gave him when he arrived. We will certainly return."
