Description
This idyllic Lake-side spot weaves a special magic over guests. Wake up to the call of a whip bird and have breakfast on the verandah while watching water birds having theirs on the water's edge just below you. Then head off to the beach to catch the morning's surf or walk along the sweeping bay and have a coffee at one of several cafes on your way back.
For winter evenings, snuggle up in front of the wood-burning stove with a book or a DVD.
Here you will find the best of both worlds: from the buzz of the beach, shops and cafes to the serene tranquility of the Lake.
The house is newly renovated and decorated in stunning tropical style, with polished floor boards, a day bed and luxurious piles of brightly coloured cushions.
The extensive living area is air conditioned and comprises open-plan sitting area around the TV and slow combustion stove, large dining table and kitchen, plus room for a fold-out card table. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything from toaster to traditional tea-pot.
The outdoor living area is covered, and has a sitting area, hammock, dining table and hooded barbecue with side burner. It overlooks the garden and Lake.
There are 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom is on the living level and has a king double bed and en-suite bathroom (shower only). Bedrooms 2 and 3 are upstairs, are both air conditioned and have king and queen double beds respectively. These two share a bathroom (bath and overhead shower). The king double in bedroom 1 can be split into 2 singles each, if requested.
Parking comprises a double carport and space for a third car.
Nature lovers will be captivated by the rich and varied bird life that inhabits the Lake and its shores. Pelicans glide past on a regular beat and cormorants often join them on their fishing forays. Ever seen fish jump? Teals and swamphens are permanently camped around our jetty as they forage in the reeds and shallows. The majestic black swans put in the occasional appearance, as do spoonbills.
Two kayaks (a 2-seater and a single) are provided for your enjoyment - sometimes, unfortunately, dependent on water levels on our side of the Lake. Most of the year you can paddle all the way to the beach.
The garden is fully fenced and provides a safe playing area for children.
The lower deck is devoted to entertainment, with dart board, table tennis table and comfortable seating area for spectators. The less active may prefer to view the goings-on while luxuriating in the spa.
Local attractions
Avoca Beach is, first and foremost, a beautiful beach, and is patrolled for most of the weekend and also has dedicated surfing zones, plus a protected rockpool for toddlers.
The historic Avoca Beach Picture Theatre has the latest movies and is a 10 minute walk from The Lake Hut.
To stretch those legs, picturesque bushwalks are there for the taking, particularly the walk to Maitland Bay in nearby Bouddi National Park.
For the even more active, the local tennis club has two courts for hire - just ask under "Message" when you make an enquiry.
Some of the finest live music can be enjoyed with a meal at Lizotte's Central Coast, which is some 3km from The Lake Hut in nearby Kincumber. They even have a courtesy bus.
Market day is generally every 4th Sunday. Ask for a late check-out to check it out.
