Welcome to Chequers Court. This classic 1880s mountains weatherboard home has masses of charm and retains many original features of the period while providing all modern comforts.

This is the perfect venue to gather all generations of the family together or to organise a group of friends to spend some quality time together. Relax and discover the delights of crisp mountain air, quiet starry nights and long discussions or games around the kitchen table.

The Blackheath area is magnificnet all year round. Enjoy scenic walks and picturesque day trips starting from the front door as you discover the many treasures nearby!
Spring gardens in the upper mountains are spectacular. Daffodils appear through the morning frost and flowering trees display their glory. Blackheath is renowned for its many Rhododendrons growing in private and public gardens. The cool evenings are perfect for enjoying the wood fuelled fire and hearty meals.
Summer brings sparkling days. A little crispness in the early morning and coolness in the evenings encourage the comfort of a rug. Enjoy long summer afternoons catching up with friends in the pleasant gardens.
Autumn features spectacular leaf colour. The gentler weather is ideal for long walks in the invigorating mountain air, sharpening your appetite for steaming soup, tasty casseroles and hot fruit crumble in the evenings.
Winter is a very popular time in the mountains. Enjoy the pleasures of Christmas in July and the Winter Magic Festival.

The House and Garden

Chequers Court can accommodate up to 10 people in the house and separate cottage. The property is always booked as one item so you still have the property to yourselves.

See the floorplan in the picture gallery to get an idea of the layout. It's a bit like a Cluedo board without the secret passages!

The main house has 3 bedrooms. Two bedrooms have queen beds and the other has a king bed which can also be made up as twin beds. There are two bathrooms in the house. The main bathroom has a clawfoot bath and separate shower.

The well equipped kitchen has a large extendable table and chairs, a wood burning combustion stove with an oven, 2 porcelain sinks with separate preparation areas, a dishwasher, microwave and gas oven with cooktop. There is also an under cover barbecue connected to natural gas just outside the kitchen door.

The house features a comfortable library/sitting room with a wide range of books for both adults and children to choose from. The formal lounge has a 3D TV, DVD player and gas log fireplace. The enclosed verandah wrapped around the house provides many cosy nooks for you to curl up with a book.

The separate cottage has a further 2 bedrooms, living area with TV/DVD and its own bathroom. This is a great space for the 'kids domain'. Either bedroom can be made up with a king bed or twin beds.

Chequers Court sits on a half-acre block with plenty of interesting secrets to discover. The rhododendrons in the front garden are over 100 years old and are a feature in Spring. The secluded rear garden with its table and benches seats 12 people and is a lovely place for relaxed meals in fine weather.

Beautiful Blackheath

Blackheath has a National Parks Visitors Centre where lots of local information on the area can be found. Details for walks from gentle strolls to more adventurous hikes can be obtained here. There are many walks, waterfalls, lookouts and spectacular scenery to enjoy. Blackheath also features a picturesque golf course, the Rhododendron Gardens and the famous Blackheath Pool in the Memorial Gardens. The "Rhododendron Festival" is held in the first weekend of November.

Blackheath has many interesting shops and cafes in a traditional country town streetscape. Antiques, old and new books, jewellery, clothes, galleries, gifts, homewares and more can all be found in the heart of town. Take a short drive out along the Shipley Road to visit the Logan Brae apple orchard.

Apart from great coffee at any number of cafes, there is great local shopping for any occasion, including a fabulous butcher, a traditional fruit and vegetable store, delicatessens, well stocked supermarkets and two sourdough bakeries. So the choice is yours - shop and cook at home, or try one of the many eateries. In addition to the popular cafes and pubs, Blackheath has several award-winning restaurants including "Vulcans", "Ashcrofts" and "Escarpment". Booking in advance for these is recommended.

Local markets are held regularly in Blackheath. The growers market in the Community Centre (corner of Gardiners Rd and The Great Western Highway) is held on the 2nd Sunday of each month . It showcases local producers for fresh fruit and vegetables, assorted cheeses, freshly made breads, olives, oils, free range eggs, deli items, meats, pasta & sauces, baked goods, seafood, condiments, freshly cut flowers, plants, seedlings, plus many more surprises.

There are of course many more things to do. Continue along Hat Hill Road to explore The Wind Eroded Cave and the views from Hat Hill and Pulpit Rock. It is a short drive out to Shipley Plateau, Hargreaves Lookout with spectacular views and down to the Megalong Valley (where there is a great tea room). There are also many local galleries featuring the work of local artists. The Zigzag railway is a short drive towards Lithgow and is very popular with children. A day trip to Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens or Jenolan Caves is well worth the effort. Another fabulous experience is a visit to "Secret Creek" wild life sanctuary in a fabulous bush setting in Lithgow.
