Description
This beautifully renovated "railway" cottage is only 75km from Melbourne's CBD (and only a 45 min drive from the eastern suburbs). It is a straightforward route heading east out of Melbourne on the Warburton Highway, a lovely drive that takes in prime farmland, vineyards, orchards and bush. Also easy to reach without a car, the local bus leaves from Lilydale (bus departs outside the train station) & takes you straight to the cottage. Situated in the heart of this old gold mining town, Karalice offers the best of both worlds. From every window there are glimpses of natural beauty with mountains, bush, delightful cottage gardens, birdlife and the 100 year old oak tree standing sentinel in the park next door. Alternatively, you have cafes, restaurants, bookshops, homewares/artisan stores, fresh & local produce stores/markets, massage & natural therapies, the Yarra River, 18 hole golf course (& clubrooms) and the famous Warburton Trail all at your doorstep. A small drive away and you can enjoy the beauty of Mt Donna Buang (the closest snow to Melb in the winter), old growth rainforests and world renowned wineries. Paying homage to the region's "honeymoon" history, we also offer a honeymoon or couples retreat package, where breakfast, local Yarra Valley champagne, chocolates, sumptuous bed linen & white fluffy towels are offered for a weekend rate of $650.
Karalice House - Interior
Renovated to the highest standards, Karalice retains it's old world charm (built in 1906) with many original features but has a classic, stylish and contemporary "feel" in the furnishings and artifacts. The furnishings and linen have a French Provincial flavour, giving a crisp, light interior that is cosy, comfortable and welcoming. Enjoy french doors from 3 rooms leading to deck areas, leadlight windows, gas coal fire and spa bath in the main bathroom.
Original polished floors, cushions and throw rugs give a warmth to this delightful cottage. The fully self contained country kitchen is a pleasure to work in or enjoy a bbq on the deck - it can be very tempting to stay in! We also provide a well stocked dvd library, quality books & magazines, cd's & an ipod dock for those who like to stay in. We can provide quality bed linen at a cost of $15 per person for the duration of your stay. Pillows & doonas are provided should you wish to byo linen. With the 'life' of the town at your doorstep, cafes & restaurants are just a stroll away. Follow the sound of music (often blues/rock & Indie style) to the cafe across the road, if you fancy a night of live music, a drink or dinner. Everything you need is just outside your gate so you can spend a weekend never getting in the car! For more energetic guests, walk the many trails & tracks (bush & riverside) in the area or ride the famous Warburton Trail which starts in Melbourne & ends right near our cottage. See old growth rainforests and take in the spectacular "tree-tops" walk, a breath- taking bird's eye view of the rainforest with some trees 400 years old!
The perfect getaway......
Whether just a couple looking for a romantic weekend, a family group or group of friends wanting to share a break, the cottage meets every need. It is large enough to cater to 3 couples, a family or group of friends with its 3 bedrooms ( 2 queens, 2 singles & day bed), 2 toilets, 2 large, well appointed bathrooms (main with spa bath) and 2 deck areas. It also has an intimacy and romanticism with the beautiful 'honeymoon' style master suite with French inspired Queen bed, sumptuous ensuite and views from the bed through the stained glass french doors to the mountains beyond. In the morning open the french doors & enjoy a fresh coffee in bed or on the east deck, while you breathe in the mountain air & listen to the birdsong. Abundant birdlife and glorious cottage gardens surround the cottage with plenty of sunny nooks & shady glades, in every season. A beautiful location in the cooler months with snow on the nearby mountains or enjoy the sound of the rain on the tin roof -- perfect for a read or doze by the fire! Simply stunning in autumn with the spectacular colours of nature, it is also delightful in summer with the nearby river for swimming, canoeing & rafting or spend a balmy evening at home under the oak tree. The property is fenced on 3 sides with space for 2 cars at the rear of the property & further off street parking in the back car park. We are the closest cottage to the Warb Trail which ends just up the back of the cottage.
