Description
Subiaco is within a short stroll of the highest point in the Blue Mountains. For 20 years until May 2012 it was a private holiday home that is now available for you to enjoy and is ideally suited for a couple or family with up to 2 school age children.
Retaining all of its 1920's charm with high ceilings, front return verandah, large covered rear deck and surrounded by a beautiful mature garden it is perfect for that weekend getaway or a mid week break to relax and unwind.
Although located within a short walk to Mt Victoria village, Hornes Point, Mt Piddington rock climbs and nearby walks it is however very private and quiet.
The cottage has 2 bedrooms one with a queen bed and the other with 2 single beds all with electric blankets. Linen & towels are provided for guests using these beds so all you need to do is arrive and begin your break when you enter the front door.
While only having 2 bedrooms Subiaco however has 2 bathrooms, one with a bath & shower overhead and the other with just a shower unit.
If required a full size cot/bassinet with a mattress can be arranged to be provided & assembled, for an additional cost of $25 per stay, if a couple only have a small baby/toddler.
You can choose whether to just relax and enjoy the cottage, grounds or panoramic view of Kanimbla Valley and further out towards Oberon & Bathurst or use Subiaco as your base to explore and discover the local and surrounding area.
A selection of books, games & DVD's are also provided should the weather be unfavourable or you decide to just stay in at the cottage.
Additional things you may want to know about Subiaco/Mt Victoria
Arrival time is normally after 2pm and Departure time is normally by 10am.
- 5 minute drive east to Blackheath
- 5 to 10 minute walk down the hill to Mt Victoria village, Mt Vic Flicks & train station
- 15 minute drive east to Katoomba/Leura
- 20 minute drive west to Lithgow
- 20 minute drive west to Lake Lyell (trout fishing, swimming & water skiing)
- 25 minute drive along the Darling Causeway & Bells Line of Road to Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens (now free entry)
- 50 minute drive west to Jenolan Caves or Oberon
- 1 hour drive west to Bathurst
- 1h 40m drive west to Orange
- 1h 45m drive west to Mudgee (vineyards)
- 1h 45m to 2h 15m drive west from Sydney CBD (depending on Sydney traffic)
The cottage has had central heating (hydronic) installed to provide guests with a warm & cozy environment even during the coldest months of the year. While no longer required to heat the cottage the slow combustion fire in the lounge/dining area has however been retained should you want to light a fire for a romantic evening. A limited amount of firewood is provided during the cooler months.
As Subiaco is located in the upper Blue Mountains (over 1km above sea level) the temperature can at times be 10c cooler than Sydney and the weather can also change very quickly. Frost and the occassional snowfall occur during winter. It is recommended that you consider bringing a jumper, scarf & coat with you especially if you are coming up in the cooler months of the year.
You maybe lucky enough to see a bower bird in the front garden so please try and not frighten it or disturb the various things it has collected.
A small selection of breakfast cereals, quick oats (for making porridge), vegemite, marmalade & jam for a couple of days as well as a small quanity of tea & coffee plus 1lt of long life milk are provided to help you settle in quickly.
Groceries, fresh fruit & veg can be obtained from Blackheath during normal trading hours. There is also a general store on the highway next to the old Post Office & a Caltex service station/mini mart on the highway at the Lithgow end of Mt Victoria.
Off street parking in the driveway can accommodate up to 2 cars.
Please note that No Smoking or Pets/Animals are allowed at Subiaco.
No additional charges for public holidays and no booking or cleaning fees apply as these are all included in the Rates below.

Tariff includes all linen & towels for up to 4 adults/school children and all cleaning & booking charges. The Autumn & Spring "Sun to Thur From $ p/n" tariff shown below is the nightly rate for a minimum 3 day stay.
