Description
Abelia offers guests a unique experience in Leura. A 1930s mountains cottage, with a large garden in a quiet position just a five minute stroll to Leura village, Abelia has been recently renovated. With chefs kitchen and polished floors, it is set among trees in a large garden planted for food, birdlife and flowers. This is a sustainable garden, nourished by natural horticulture methods.
Inside, Abelia is light and spacious, yet cosy and warm with an open fire, gas heating and sun flooding through north facing windows during the day. All rooms have windows facing the garden. Our linen is home laundered, fine quality cotton, with feather duvets and electric blankets for winter warmth. There is a bath for soaking in.
Sit with a glass of wine and enjoy the traditional mountains garden planted with rhododendrons, fruit trees, roses, azaleas, daffodils, daphne and all sorts of old fashioned plants.
Wander down meandering paths in this quiet oasis and pick your own vegetables, herbs and berries (when in season) from the extensive kitchen garden. At the moment we have: raspberries, rhubarb, parsley, lettuce, jerusalem artichokes, spinach, silverbeet, spring onions, green tea (we have a tea hedge) and most herbs
Enjoy the company of our three bantam hens, secure in their cosy house, and gather their eggs in the laying season. Feed them some wheat in the afternoon and they happily peck around.
Cook in style with the Italian Bertazzoni stove. Oven cooking with gas or electric. Anyone can be a masterchef with this fabulous stove! Our cupboards are stocked with basic ingredients and our kitchen is fully equipped including dishwasher - you can even bake your own bread with our well tried recipe!
At night, listen for the ringtail possums which can be seen running along the fence and into the trees. It is possible to photograph them from a safe distance. For the protection of these resident possums we are unable to welcome dogs.
Ideally suited to one or two couples, who like to treat yourselves, Abelia is a place where you can relax and enjoy the mountains lifestyle, home grown food, stylish cottage, lovely garden, yet so close to everything Leura has to offer. Perfect peace with the convenience of restaurants and shops less than five minutes walk.
Relax. This is the good life!

What a lovely time had here at Abelia! Clean and comfortable, all we had to do was light the fire. Generous stack of firewood, and the gas heater is very warming and homely. Enjoyed cooking in the state of the art kitchen and helped ourselves to fresh herbs and salad from the gorgeous garden. Would definitely come again. (Sydney guests)
