Description

The Cedars, at 1200 acres, is the largest private wildlife sanctuary in the Kangaroo Valley. Within the Cedars precinct, there is also a working beef cattle farm and the original home of famous Shire Draught horses in Australia. Our Shire Draught horses have been widely featured in national and international media.

For accommodation, there is choice of five very comfortable, well appointed 1 & 2 BR cottages and the 3BR Homestead. Each of these contain the usual high quality facilities, fully equipped kitchen, crisp white sheets, and soft fluffy towels.

Fresh local eggs, bread and conserves are provided for your breakfast, accompanied of course with filter coffee and a selection of fine teas. The water supply at The Cedars comes from natural springs throughout the farm.

Activities at Cedars

Relax and enjoy the peace, tranquility, and complete privacy of The Cedars. There are kilometres of well marked mountain trails through virgin bushland, from gentle strolls to vigorous bushwalks for keen walkers, joggers and bird watchers.

Wildlife abounds at The Cedars including Echidna, Lyre Birds, Wallabies, Parrots, Kookaburras, Wombats and Kangaroos (of course!). Two wedge-tail Eagles live in the mountains nearby and are often seen circling above.

Not all the life at The Cedars is wild. Get to know our prize winning Shire Draught horses, including Archie, our Sydney Royal Champion. Help collect the eggs and feed the cattle, and generally learn about life on the farm.

Play tennis on the court adjacent to the Homestead. Racquets and balls are supplied. Have a BBQ by Barrengarry Creek which runs from the waters of Belmore Falls, at the end of our valley.

For the more adventurous, personalised abseiling, rock climbing, mountaineering, canoeing and mountain bike tours can be arranged.

More recently, trekkers training for the Kokoda Track have used Cedars as a base for training.

You can also have your wedding at the Cedars, a practical drive from Sydney, and a lovely location for your special day.

Enough said, come down and visit us at The Cedars for a well deserved break and experience this unspoilt private paradise for yourselves.

  • "We had a great time, stayed at the homestead which accommodates 8 people. Everything we needed was available, there were fresh eggs in the fridge, sourdough bread and butter and jam. We enjoyed the open fire and the open plan kitchen and dining area very much. There was plenty of room for the kids to play and they loved the animal feeding the next day. Greg and Helen were very helpful to get our bbq stove going."
