Description

Herrmann's Cottage is a classic Australian miner's cottage (circa 1860) set on over half-acre of gardens. It is fully self-contained and completely private.

Herrmann Blum acquired this half-acre allotment in the Parish of Maldon by Crown Grant in 1859. He established "a three-roomed weatherboard house with iron roof, two stables and outhouses". And today, as you enter Herrmann's Cottage, you can see the original three rooms are still there!

The cottage has recently been carefully redecorated throughout: retaining all the character but with the modern comforts. It features a traditional front verandah with slate paving, and inside there are the original dados and Baltic pine floors. There's a sitting room with a wood fire, three bedrooms, an updated bathroom with an original claw-foot bath and a brick paved courtyard with an outdoor table setting and BBQ.

Come and relax in the peace and tranquillity of Herrmann's Cottage and enjoy the experience of historic Maldon!

Provisions

Herrmann's Cottage is maintained with some essential provisions on-hand (eg some tea, coffee and milk is provided). And also included with the tariff could be some jams or chutneys, a nice loaf of bread from the Maldon Bakery, some fresh free-range eggs, or maybe some chocolates or a bottle of wine (the actual selection depending on the duration of your stay and what's suitably available locally at the time).

Facilities

There are three (3) bedrooms. Two double bedrooms and a third bedroom with a single bed. The bed linen is provided.
The sitting room has a wood heater, a TV, DVD and CD player (and a small selection of DVDs and CDs).
The kitchen has an electric cook-top stove and benchtop oven, refrigerator with freezer, a microwave and essential kitchen equipment. The adjoining dining area seats 4 to 6 people. And there's an outdoor brick paved courtyard with a table setting and BBQ.
The updated bathroom has an original full size claw-foot bath. And there's a separate toilet (inside). Bath towels and essential toiletries are provided.
The laundry facilities include a front-loading washing machine, dryer, outside clothes line and an iron and full-size ironing board.
There's a handy carport and other easily accessible on-site car parking.
The telephone service is available for use by guests. But for outgoing calls, is limited to local calls only.

  • "A great quaint little cottage prepared lovingly for visitors to enjoy the spirit of a bygone era. We had everything we needed and the little extras were fantastic. The gardens were delightful even in the height of the drought. A perfect home away from home! "

  • "Our stay at Hermann's cottage was wonderful! The cottage was spottless and very quirky! Renovations are stylish and yet comfortable - mattrasses comfortable as well which is not often in rental properties. The garden is lovely well mantained and fully fenced so our kids ran free. The kitchen was stocked with some nice things - local bread, jam, chockolate, milk coffee tea - how very thoughtful. All the appliances are good quality - washine machine dryer fridge microwave. We are very impressed - Hermanns cottage is a rare find in Victoria, will highly recommend to anyone - couples and families alike. oh, btw - the single room is divine - so cosy and comfortable! "

  • "We stayed in Hermann's cottage for 2 nights over the Christmas break and we thought it wa fantastic! We do quite a lot of travel around Vistoria (with 2 young kids) - and found this friendly cottage absolutely lovely! Beautiful and ralaxing, spotlessly clean. all the details thought after. The caretaker stocked the cupboard with local bread, chocolates milk and jams. You dont often get this kind of true hospitality. The garden is fully fenced so we were relaxed about our kids playing there, there are few good books, the bed matresses are comfortable, all the appliances are good quality. We had a feeling that the owners take real pride in their cottage and the way they treat their guests - in a guest book there are many entries of people who have stayed in the cottege more than once. Excellent property! Highly recommended."
