Description

A stilt house which elevates you to the treetops, Khan Cottage enjoys a spectacular outlook. We have 135 acres of rolling rainforest, pasture and creeks, plus a wraparound deck with views which go on forever. Swing in the hammock with only the call of the Whip birds to disturb you or settle down beside our roaring pot-belly stove. From the deck, hear the rush of the creeks after rainfall and the raucous call of rainforest birds and kookaburras in sunshine. You will be looking out over one of the most successful rainforest regeneration projects in the region.

Facilities

Khan Cottage is fully self-contained. The accommodation includes two bedrooms: one queensize with its own deck and one double bedroom, both supplied with quality linen and towels. The house is lovingly furnished and maintained and is equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, potbelly stove, sound system, DVD, VCR and video library.

Despite our faraway feel, vibrant Berry with its many cafes and shops is a five-minute drive away. You are also close to Seven Mile Beach, boutique wineries, excellent restaurants, seasonal dolphin and whale watching and the stunning beaches of Jervis Bay. The cottage is a two-hour drive from Sydney, south along the Princes Highway.

Khan Cottage's rainforest restoration project.

As committed conservationists we have entered into a Registered Property Agreement keeping our land safe from development forever. We are regenerating our precious rainforest creeks and working hard to restore the flora on all our property - a pioneering endeavour for private landowners. Ten years ago, our creeks - like most in the Illawarra - were a mass of privet, lantana and other weeds. Today, uniquely in the locality, they are regenerating Illawarra Subtropical Rainforest, an endangered vegetation community. This on-going project (recognised by a Federal Government Envirofund grant), is the result of much hard work and is where the proceeds from your stay are spent.

  • "Beautiful outlook day and night wth the endless treetops, and spectacular night skies. Accomodation is comfortable, peaceful and totally private. Our purpose was to have a stretch of days in seclusion and totally relax and we had that!"

  • "Wow, indeed... Although we were only at the lovely Khan Cottage for 3 days- it felt like a month. All the tension and stress completely melted away as soon as we stepped onto that lovely balcony. The entire house is so inviting and homely that we immediatley felt it was ours. Special mention must be made of the couch- I was asleep in a sunbeam within minutes! the babbling brook a short walk from the house was a little peice of paradise and made me appreciate the whole property all the more. Loved our time and we're REALLY looking forward to getting back ASAP."

  • "Wow... what an amazing and delightful surprise! Not 2 hours from Sydney, you honestly can feel the stress just float away within hours of being there. Only spent 24 hours at Khan and cannot remember feeling so relaxed in a weekend for as long as I can remember. Nestled in the hills just minutes from Berry, surrounded by trees, and nature with amazing views from the balcony. The pot belly stove warms the cottage beautifully and honestly every detail has been thought of..... I reccomend this hidden treasure for anyone who just needs to getaway and enjoy the serenity."

  • "This is an excellent property in the region. Close to the Kangaroo Valley and beaches, it is also near enough to Berry for convenience but placed in such a situation that one feels a million mies away from the bustle of this touristy town. The house is large and comfortable and thoughtfully decorated with everyone you need. One of the lovliest places I have stayed in! Nico"
