Stay for a weekend just 1 hour 45 mins from Canberra. Maloney's Beach is just off the Prince's highway, nestled between the beach and the Murramurang National Park. Swim and enjoy the beautiful beach or take bush walks exploring the National Park and its secrets. Dolphins often frolic in the waters in front of the house, and many yachts cruise in the Bay. Kangaroos are an intriguing local attraction and they come out to feed on the foreshore. You can fish off the beach - particularly at night - and the keen fisherman can arrange a fishing excursion (around $100 per head). There is also a reef system in front of house that is accessible with our sea kayak (the directions are in the house and the kyak can be arranged in advance) and a good catch is almost guaranteed. Or for total relaxation just sit on our verandah and enjoy the view. We recently had a visit from the schooner Duyfken, here is an entry from the captain's log:
10/12/2006 Day 249
At anchor - Bateman Bay
Journal Entry 71 - Bateman Bay
At 1730, we dropped anchor in the beautifully sheltered Chain Bay
(Maloneys Beach), in the northern part of Batemans Bay. A relief to get in and find shelter, the contrast to the previous days of heavy weather could not have been more marked. Many of the crew took the chance to have a swim over the side and generally relax. It should be a quiet night here – the southerly change, a strong one from the forecast, is due to move through late tomorrow morning, and we will head out as soon as it comes through to continue our passage to Sydney.
Now we wait for the southerly

For those who enjoy bush walking, Murramurang National Park is just at the end of our street. 'Montalbano' is situated on the waterfront and allows you to watch the wildlife from the lounge room. There is easy access to both the water and the park. It is ideally positioned for bird watchers and nature lovers, or those just keen to spend time away from the bustle of city life. Get back to nature at your leisure and enjoy the delights that Maloneys Beach and Murramurang Park have to offer, on foot or by bicycle. The Marine Park has been declared over 12 months so Fishing Trawlers are no longer scraping the Ocean Beds in front of the house and fishing is better now than in the 1960's the underwater photos show a recovery in fans and Sea Tulips. I suspect within a few years even commercial catches will rise as fish are able to breed.
Already the number of fish caught off the beach and rocks have increased. The new zones can be viewed at
Just ask for the fishing maps and I can email or PDF file them to you.
The sleeping configuration consists of: three bedrooms upstairs - with queen size beds - and two full bathrooms, one being an ensuite. Downstairs has another large bedroom - 7 meters by 5 meters - with a bunk bed, two singles and another queen sized bed. There is also a toilet and shower on this level. Please note with this arrangement it is not NOT possible to accomodate large groups of singles while we can accomodate up to 14 but is best with a few couples. The laundry is ready for use with washing powder and fabric softener supplied. All you will need are your tooth brushes, thongs and swimsuits. Internet dial up access is provided as are free local phone calls.
The water temperature is a lovely 21 in Summer and only falls to 17 degrees midwinter. It is possible to swim all year round without a wet suit, however several wet suits are supplied. Maloneys beach slopes gently down into the water and has none of the hazards of a surf beach.
