Surrounded by rainforest and sublime views of the Quintoc Range and Thone River Valley, this glorious large apartment style B&B studio is set on 20 acres with river frontage. It is part of the renowned Blue Poles Café and Contemporary Art Gallery in the village of Byabarra. Only ±35 minutes drive from Port Macquarie, or 20 minutes from Wauchope. Ideal for romantic weekends, midweek getaways or a relaxing country experience. Unique artist retreat with delightful and amazing panoramic rural landscapes.
From Thursday to Sunday enjoy the Café's home baked treats: a great coffee or devonshire tea with freshly baked scones, or a delicious lunch. During daylight savings, the Café is also open for dinner from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Why do we have so many regular patrons? Most say it is the exceptional food, prepared with flair and passion. Many say it is the efficient, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. All agree on the breathtaking view. Discover Blue Poles for yourself!
Plenty of diversions are available when you stay at our 4.5* B&B: books, board games, bush walks, music and movies. As well, for the energetic, we provide tennis racquets and balls for a free game of tennis at the community courts across the road; just bring your tennis shoes.
And of course the private 11.5m saltwater swimming pool in its unique bush setting provides ample scope for lazing, laughter and laps.
Ideal spot for serious twitchers ... the property is teeming with birds, wildlife and native creatures.
Blue Poles is fully licenced, so you can enjoy exceptional dinners with wine in your room or on your own private verandah in style.
Use Blue Poles as an anchor while you explore the Port Macquarie hinterland and nearby must-see Ellenborough Waterfalls ... Australia and the Southern Hemisphere's tallest Waterfalls. Or just stay put and relax, you'll have the wildlife, birds and the 11.5m saltwater pool all to yourselves!

On the plate... Blue Poles Café
Blue Poles is a combined Café, Art Gallery & B&B, situated on the Comboyne Road about 30 minutes out from Port Macquarie. Sitting on the deck feeling the autumn sun as we gaze over the Quintoc Valley is totally relaxing.
The Café has a deserved reputation for using fresh local produce utilised into dishes appropriate fro the season. It also serves morning and afternoon teas and the art gallery showcases local north coast artists.
We peruse a menu resplendent with autumn fare and order a bottle of Cassegrain Sparkling Cuvee, $23, a bubbly delight we keep a secret on the north coast. The Meze Plate, $21, a combination of flat bread, four freshly made dips (beetroot, pesto, picked herring and ramesco), olives, fetta cheese, chilli calamari, baked garlic capsicum and BBQ chorizo sausage. We lazily pick through the individual flavours and textures on the plate.
The blackboard arrives with today's specials and from here we order. A Bouillabaisse, $28, presents itself as a hearty fish stew with prawns, mussels, a medley of freshly caught fish and vegetables topped with sour cream, orange zest and parsley. It is not an overpowering dish, is is a light taste of the sea and it enjoys the toasted Turkish bread served alongside.
The hand made Pappardelle di Pollo pasta with white wine poached chicken and broccoli [tossed through a mustard butter] topped with parmesan cheese and basil, $26, reminds me why freshly made pasta is essential. It is silken and a star! The other ingredients enliven the palate with flavour. Wonderful!
The French Goats Cheese parcel, $22, is mild and topped with roasted pear and candied macadamias and [served with] a fresh garden salad. I could be in France!
The dessert blackboard appears, all @ $9, all made in the kitchen! The Espresso Panna Cotta is thankfully heavy with coffee and enjoys the vanilla ice cream and biscotti.
Apple and Cinnamon Pie is an individual pie served with fresh home made vanilla custard and berry coulis. The freshly stewed apple and crumbly sweet shortcrust pastry with a hint of cinnamon is a winner.
The Orange and Almond Cake with orange confit and slivered almonds is light and delicious of orange.
Let the happy team at Blue Poles make your visit a lunch to remember.

Ten top Aussie destinations you've never heard of!
Just when you thought you'd seen it all, Lee Atkinson shares her discovery of 10 places, from Tasmania to the Torres Strait and well beyond Bourke, that are worth getting back on the road for.
2. Byabarra, NSW mid-north coast
Beyond the handful of locals who live there, hardly anyone has ever heard of Byabarra. And I can't say I blame them. Even driving through, it's easy to miss, given it's really just a clutch of houses perched on a ridgeline overlooking the Thone River Valley in the NSW mid-north coast hinterland.
There's not much to the ''village'' - just a two-room primary school, a weatherboard church, community hall and a fabulous cafe and art gallery where the valley views from the back deck stretch forever. The thing that makes Byabarra special is the location. Wind your way up the hill and you'll burst out of the rainforest atop a plateau of lush dairy farms. Turn right and you'll find yourself at Boorgana Nature Reserve, one of the oldest reserves in NSW, full of old-growth cedar and pristine waterfalls. Turn left and you're at Ellenborough Falls, the largest single drop of water in the southern hemisphere. Drive just 15 minutes down the hill from Byabarra and you're at Wauchope, where on the fourth Saturday of every month the locals from Byabarra and surrounding villages gather to swap gossip and sell whatever's growing at the farmers' market. Another 10 minutes and you can take your pick of any of Port Macquarie's 15 beaches.
Where to stay: Blue Poles Cafe and Gallery, 1086 Comboyne Road, Byabarra
This large luxurious 4.5 star* self contained treetop studio caters for couples seeking a romantic getaway or a relaxing break from today's hustle and bustle. The high ceiling, beautifully polished wooden floor, original artwork and spacious studio style apartment all add to that carefree feeling. Indulge in natures own beauty with all the creature comforts you could need.
The B&B has a private balcony with BBQ with outdoor dining setting. Amenities include crockery and cutlery, microwave oven and toaster, fridge, kettle, and air conditioning. Along with these many home comforts, an overhead fan, soft lighting, a comfortable sofa and day bed completes the picture.
The entertainment centre includes digital plasma screen TV plus a sound system. Movies, music, games and books are provided for your enjoyment. Broadband internet is available.
For exercise or enjoyment, the 11.5 metre heated salt water swimming pool provides just the diversion you need for laps, lazing or laughter. In addition to fluffy white bath towels, swimming towels are provided for your convenience.
Community tennis courts across the road can be booked on request, free of charge. We provide tennis racquets and balls, just bring your tennis shoes, and lots of energy.
Alternately indulge in nature on this 20 acre property with river frontage. Fauna and flora in abundance to enchant and delight.
Apart from a citrus orchard, a rainforest bursting with native and exotic flowers and exquisite birds, the property is bordered along one side by the Thone River. The tranquil cooling waters are ideal for a refreshing dip. Sturdy walking shoes or boots are recommended.
A full continental breakfast is included in the tariff. Evening meals can be served on request. Choose dishes from the café menu and the seasonal specials' board, or a BBQ pack of either marinated steak or chicken can be provided. Wine, beer and selected spirits are available as we are fully licenced.
