Sunbirds Villa

Nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac across from the beach this newly appointed air conditioned villa is a great place for a holiday.

Imagine strolling along the beach looking out to Dunk Island and the Family Group of Islands with the Coral Sea lapping at your feet before you go out to dinner in the small village of Mission Beach.

Accommodation is over 2 levels with the main bedroom and ensuite bathroom upstairs. If eating at home is your preference Sunbirds is ideal offering a well equipped kitchen, living and dining all opening onto the patio overlooking the tropical garden, pool and canopy of palm trees through to ocean glimpses.

The pool is ideal to cool down after lazing in the sun or your walk along the beach.

Downstairs there is a second bedroom with 2 single beds (can be zipped together as a king bed) and bathroom. Also downstairs is large lockup garage and fully equipped laundry.

Added extras include games, books and puzzles; a picnic basket, beach chairs and umbrella and beach games and toys.

Sunbirds is a nature lovers paradise with the trees surrounding the patio attracting an extensive array of local birdlife and butterflies which as the sun sets are often replaced with friendly visits by shy green tree frogs and cute little gheckos.

The Sunbird

"Sunbirds Villa" is named after one of the prettiest birds in Far North Queensland, the little yellow bellied Sunbird.

A precocious little avian, bold in its never-ending search for a perfect home, preferably under the comfortable shelter of a manmade structure such as a shed or a verandah. The male sunbird wears an iridescent midnight-blue bib over his brilliant yellow chest and with his glossy olive-green back and long curved beak is quite a spectacular specimen. The female is almost as attractive, but without the blue bib.

Similar to the honeyeaters, they remove nectar from flowers with a long brush-tipped tongue, yet are different by sucking the nectar through the tongue, which rolls up to become a fine tube. Spiders and insects comprise the rest of the menu.

Breeding is between July and March, although nests are built yearlong. When male and female become an established couple, they live together in a territory that the male defends while the female is busy nest-building.

Mission Beach

The tropical coastal village of Mission Beach is 2.5 hours drive North of Townsville and 1.5 hours drive South of Cairns. Situated on the edge of 14 Km of beautiful sunkissed beaches with magnificent views of Dunk Island and Bedarra Island (being part of the family group of islands).

Its name originating from the Aboriginal Mission founded at South Mission Beach in the early 1900's. Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach all having their own unique entity for forming the perfect holiday.

The township is surrounded by National Parks, World Heritage Rainforest, Tropical Islands and is one of the closest points to the Great Barrier Reef (one of the Seven Wonders of the World).
