Description

Ruwenzori (pron Roo-wen-zor-ee) is a secluded, bush retreat near the food and wine-lover's paradise of Mudgee, in Central West NSW. Perched high on the Great Dividing Range, Ruwenzori boasts sweeping views and is surrounded by 25 hectares of bush, offering absolute peace and privacy. Living and sleeping in converted 100-year-old railway carriages -decorated in Orient Express style luxury - guests are provided with self-contained accommodation for up to 12 people, suiting couples, families and groups of friends. And as the retreat is single-hire, you won't be sharing with anyone else.

Spend your days exploring the bush trails where granite boulders rise high above a wide variety of flora and an abundance of wildlife. Or just relax reading a book in the hammock or sipping wine on the veranda, gazing out at this truly magical place.

Accommodation

Guest accommodation at Ruwenzori is in three large antique railway carriages - which feature all mod-cons. for your comfort.
In addition to the three accommodation carriages, Ruwenzori features many fascinating historical items from our railway past - you could spend all day just walking discovering the "treasures".

Surrounding the carriages are cottage-style gardens, fountains and an abundance of unusual "objets" which contribute to the unique and fascinating nature of Ruwenzori. In every corner of the garden is something interesting to see, or a secluded place to relax.

Activities

Most people like to spend time at Ruwenzori enjoying the peace. You won't see or hear anyone you don't want to see. We provide CDs, DVDs and lots of books. There's deck chairs and a fantastic stone day-bed-with-a view.

But if you feel like getting active, then there are some excellent bushwalks to do on our property - we provide a map of these and the trails are marked. They vary in length and offer terrific views, wonderful granite boulders and native flora and more of that treasured peace and quiet!

At night star-gazing is wonderful as we are away from city lights - and a telescope is available.

"What a magical place, we had the place to ourselves, the trains are really well appointed, with everything you would need for a romantic peaceful get-away. We didn't even want to leave to go to the wineries. (that's saying something1). A great escape, great grounds, beautiful views, and so quiet. An extremely relaxing place. "This is a truly unique and magical place. We spent a weekend at Ruwenzori for my husband's birthday - just the two of us and lots of space. Everything you could possibly require is provided - the kitchen saw us whipping up a sumptuous birthday feast. We never did get around to the nearby vineyards as Ruwenzori just held so much fascination & luxury. The carriages are incredible in their lavish detail & the grounds are wonderful. Great views too. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. "
