Description

Designed to combine the lines of a 1950s fibro beach shack with the spacious, light-filled interiors of a contemporary home, the Old Bus Shed is one of Currarong's premium holiday lettings.

With sweeping views of the coast from two levels, the property features five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen and multiple living spaces.

The property also includes a little bit of Currarong history in the Old Bus Shed, a renovated building with soaring ceilings and a flexible living space opening on to an expansive reserve.

And if staying in touch with the outside world is important, the property is equipped with wireless broadband and satellite TV.

The Sydney Morning Herald review (Google 'Big enough for a bus load') gives you sense of what the Old Bus Shed experience used to be like before the house was rebuilt. The new property includes the same comfortable atmosphere, with a higher grade of furnishings and facilities.

Living & eating

Once you have climbed the stairs to the upper living space, you won't want to leave it.

The large deck across the front provides the perfect position from which to enjoy the views, from one of the large armchairs or the table, which comfortably seats 12.

On cooler days, you can admire the view from the lounge, while enjoying the warmth of the glass-backed bioethanol fire.

If you want to escape to a quiet nook, the property has a number of other living spaces, including a large living area on the lower level, a lower deck and the enormous Old Bus Shed, furnished with large day beds and another large dining table.

The kitchen is designed and equipped for people who love to cook. With a large gas stove, sharp knives, great cookbooks, and a pantry stocked with herbs, spices and condiments, you'll never find another beach house with a kitchen like this.

The village of Currarong offers an excellent local fish shop and a general store, and you’ll find supermarkets a short drive away, in Callala and Culburra.

The Shoalhaven is an emerging gourmet area, with its own farm gate trail. You'll find more information on where to track down local supplies and delicacies in the house.

Activities

Currarong is in a unique position, tucked inside the northern headland of Jervis Bay and surrounded by bush.

The water is generally calm, crystal clear and full of sea life, including the occasional whale.

Across the road from the house is Currarong Creek (a great place to swim at high tide) and Warrain Beach, which stretches some 14km to Culburra.

A short walk away is Abraham's Bosom Beach, a pristine beach surrounded by rock platforms and native vegetation.

Abraham's Bosom is also the starting point for walking tracks on Beecroft Headland, with access to more beaches, a shipwreck and unusual rock formations.

If you don't mind a short drive, in less than 10 minutes you can be on one of the amazing, often deserted Jervis Bay beaches such as Honeymoon Bay, Long Beach or Cabbage Tree.

There are plenty of great fishing spots within a short walk of the house.

Currarong also offers a skateboard ramp, a children’s playground and tennis courts.

  • "If you love a relaxing holiday with friends or family this is the place. We have just spent 3 weeks swimming, cooking, fishing, snorkelling, catching up on films, bike riding, reading and just watching the view. The house is the most thoughtful we have stayed in. It is clean and modern with a fully stocked kitchen, comfy beds and space for the kids and the grown ups. An extra bonus is the access to the shed which has bikes, fishing gear, a trampoline, kayaks and surfmats. In poor weather there is a cupboard filled with games, puzzles, a piano or cable tv. Highly recommended."

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at the Old Bus Shed, and we expect it won't be the last. It's an extremely comfortable and well equipped house - particularly in the kitchen. It's just up the road from the local shops, and around the corner from the closest of the local beaches. The bus shed out the back will be relaxation itself - once we teach our children to chill out. I can imagine lazy afternoons, between beach visits, getting involved in a good book while the breeze wafts through the shed. In the meantime, I just look enviously at the day beds. Highly recommended. I should add that the owners are very easy to deal with!"

  • "We spent a very relaxing 5 days here. The house was beautifully equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable stay. Loved lounging in the Bus Shed in sun and rain and Marley (2) loved the swing in the reserve behind."

  • "This is the one of the most well thought out and well situated places we have stayed in. Easy living. The house has everything you need right down to a cane basket full of thongs and a stack of umbrellas. You name it this place has got it and one could not want for anything either rain or shine. Will definitley be back. The 7 adults and two kids had a ball!! I wish more stayz houses were this well equipped."

  • "We have just had the most wonderful family holiday at The Old Bus Shed. The accomodation was perfect. The house has been decorated with thought & style, everything was fresh and clean and just so easy to relax. The large table in the bus shed made meal times a very sociable affair and all the little touches, like the disco ball, made it a lot of fun. The surrounding area is full of wonderful beaches, walks and we saw dolphin and whales almost every day. I highly recommend The Old Bus Shed for the perfect holiday accommodation."
