Description
Designed to combine the lines of a 1950s fibro beach shack with the spacious, light-filled interiors of a contemporary home, the Old Bus Shed is one of Currarong's premium holiday lettings.
With sweeping views of the coast from two levels, the property features five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen and multiple living spaces.
The property also includes a little bit of Currarong history in the Old Bus Shed, a renovated building with soaring ceilings and a flexible living space opening on to an expansive reserve.
And if staying in touch with the outside world is important, the property is equipped with wireless broadband and satellite TV.
The Sydney Morning Herald review (Google 'Big enough for a bus load') gives you sense of what the Old Bus Shed experience used to be like before the house was rebuilt. The new property includes the same comfortable atmosphere, with a higher grade of furnishings and facilities.
Living & eating
Once you have climbed the stairs to the upper living space, you won't want to leave it.
The large deck across the front provides the perfect position from which to enjoy the views, from one of the large armchairs or the table, which comfortably seats 12.
On cooler days, you can admire the view from the lounge, while enjoying the warmth of the glass-backed bioethanol fire.
If you want to escape to a quiet nook, the property has a number of other living spaces, including a large living area on the lower level, a lower deck and the enormous Old Bus Shed, furnished with large day beds and another large dining table.
The kitchen is designed and equipped for people who love to cook. With a large gas stove, sharp knives, great cookbooks, and a pantry stocked with herbs, spices and condiments, you'll never find another beach house with a kitchen like this.
The village of Currarong offers an excellent local fish shop and a general store, with larger shops just a short drive away in Callala Bay and Culburra.
Activities
Currarong is in a unique position, tucked inside the northern headland of Jervis Bay and surrounded by bush.
The water is generally calm, crystal clear and full of sea life, including the occasional whale.
Across the road from the house is Currarong Creek (a great place to swim at high tide) and Warrain Beach, which stretches some 14km to Culburra.
A short walk away is Abraham's Bosom Beach, a pristine beach surrounded by rock platforms and native vegetation.
Abraham's Bosom is also the starting point for walking tracks on Beecroft Headland, with access to more beaches, a shipwreck and unusual rock formations.
If you don't mind a short drive, in less than 10 minutes you can be on one of the amazing, often deserted Jervis Bay beaches such as Honeymoon Bay, Long Beach or Cabbage Tree.
There are plenty of great fishing spots within a short walk of the house.
Currarong also offers a skateboard ramp, a children's playground and tennis courts.
