Description

Looking for a holiday destination? You may have just found it! ‘Driftwood’ is a charming lakeside cottage nestling amongst the gum trees and privy to a view that will take your breath away. Lake Conjola, on the South Coast of NSW is a pristine expanse of sparkling clear water and arguably one of Australia’s best kept holiday secrets. Very tastefully decorated and recently renovated, right down to a fully equipped picnic basket, feather doonas and complimentary bottle of wine. Just bring food and beverages, everything you need is there, even the candles, mohair throws and as one guest said...."in fact everything you need to throw a fabulous dinner party."

We could go on, but let's leave that to Simon St John, author of the prestigious travel book, ‘Beautiful Accommodation':

“As a result of our visit I am delighted to welcome you to the next edition of Beautiful Accommodation. I was so impressed with Driftwood -- the attention to detail in the interiors is superb and the setting is quite magical. Driftwood has a soul and I would be proud to represent you for the two years of the next edition. I know that as a result of the new edition many special guests will enjoy the unique experience of staying at Driftwood.”

At Conjola National Park there are just a handful of properties that enjoy elevated, uninterrupted lake views.... Driftwood is one of them.

Visit some of the local attractions including Mollymook, Milton, Ulladulla, Jervis Bay and Dolphin Point. Why not head for Pebbly Beach to feed the kangaroos (40 minute drive) or just feed the King Parrots and Rosellas from Driftwood's verandahs?

Located right in the heart of Conjola Natonal Park, there's fishing and swimming virtually at the front door, or hire a boat from the local corner store. Surfing or beach fishing is only a kilometre away at Conjola Beach, famous for its stunning white sand. Nearby Milton offers a great backdrop for a stroll as it boasts great cafes, antiques, homewares and gourmet fare, or visit some of the great wineries in the area.

We left this morning after a fantastic stay -- your place is so nicely fitted out, it was a pleasure to wake up each morning... we would have had little trouble never leaving the house if the weather had dictated it. A little palace by the water!

"What a perfect place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine on the deck and marvel at the visiting echidna on the lawn. Thank you Virginia, for providing a holiday house with such a beautiful feel; from the huge, light-filled bedroom to the kitchen filled with everything you could possibly need to cook up a storm, it really is a little slice of Conjola heaven. We are counting the months until we can come back again.....and the dogs are glaring at us for dragging them away and bringing them back home."

"The moment we entered we were struck by the beautiful decor, and the fantastic view looking directly over the lake. The ambiance of both the house and local area creates an environment of relaxation -- we explored the local town and spent time at the beach, only a few minutes away. We hope to return, thank you."

I first came across Driftwood in a divine moment of serendipity when the nearby hotel I'd stayed in previously turned out to be full. After a hectic few months in London I was looking for a bolt hole far away from the pressures of life, close enough to nature to enjoy its serenity but not so close that it crawls all over you. Driftwood is a two-bedroom holiday cottage on the shores of Lake Conjola, on the south coast of New South Wales. It's a fair old drive from Sydney, but there wasn't a shred of doubt in my mind we'd taken the right decision to spend a few days chilling here. We spent hours on end mesmerised by the stillness of the place, with the only sounds coming from fish jumping out of the lake and wild parroquets. Provided you've bought your own food, the place has everything you could possibly need - including a few thoughtfully provided last minute kitchen ingredients that you've likely forgotten. The hosts are even considerate enough to leave a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge awaiting your arrival. The surrounding area boasts some beautiful parkland and some stunning beaches (mind the rip tide and sharks) just a 10 minute drive away. The nearest big town, Ulladulla, lives up to the second part of its name, but heck if we'd wanted city lights we would've opted for Sydney or Melbourne. This is a real find and somewhere we'll be happy to return to.

  • "This was our second time at Driftwood and as divine as the first time we visited. The setting is sublime, the bedroom calming and ideal for those lazy afternoon naps. The kitchen has everything, the fire comforting, the view to die for. The biggest sound - the plop of the fish in the lake. Can't beat it for comfortable, slightly rustic Aussie- French charm in an glorious lakeside location. Thank you. "

  • "David & Virginia have done a wonderful job on decorating this place, it is warm and cosy.. the perfect Winter escape or romantic getaway for 2. I loved sitting on the comfy couch in front of the fire looking out to the beautiful views of Lake Conjola or just reading a book. I would definitely head back there again next Winter. "

  • "A fantastic location with the peace and quiet we wanted for a winter weekend escape. Driftwood had everything we needed and the owners have clearly set Driftwood up with holiday makers in mind. It felt like we were staying at a friends holiday house for the weekend. We'll be back."

  • "We absolutely loved it. It was so peacful and quiet and the property photos did not do it justice. It was immaculate. It had everything. We loved having wine next to the fire and waking up to the sun coming up over the lake and mountains was so nice. We brought stuff with us that we thought we would need but never used it, as everything was there. A home away from home. We loved it and have already recommended it to our family for possible new christmas holiday each year."

  • "Our family loved our summer time stay at Driftwood. A beautifully decorated beach house with superb lake views made for a relaxing and peaceful retreat. The boat ramp almost opposite the property was a real bonus. No matter what the weather conditions are outside this gorgeous beach house provided everything we needed for a memorable family holiday."

  • "We spent Christmas at Driftwood and had a wonderful time. The house had everything we could have needed in a holiday home. The art, photography and decoration were fantastic which added a great beach feel to our time there. Also, the setting was gorgeous. Looking out over the lake off the deck was lovely and our dog loved the nearby Conjola Beach, which is perfect first thing in the morning for a walk. Thank you David and Virginia!!! Cheers, Lianne, Marc & Trudeau"

  • "Enjoyed a wonderful stay at Driftwood. Took visiting parents from the UK for a long weekend, and we all loved everything about the place... We will certainly be back!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Driftwood. Your clear and concise directions and info were appreciated. We essentially lived on the deck apart from daily visits to the beach and outings to buy seafood and do some sight seeing. Beautiful location and furnishings. And one of the best equipped houses we have ever stayed in - we wanted for nothing. We look forward to another visit in the future. "
    Allison, March 2009

  • "Driftwood was an absolute delight and we sincerely hope that we will be able to stay there again. The house has everything (and more) that one needs to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful holiday, with all the comforts of home (minus the incessant ringing phone). The peace and quiet of the area is wonderful and the closeness of good cafes in Milton a bonus. We would be happy to recommend Driftwood to anyone who is looking for that little bit extra in a holiday rental. The booking system with David all went seamlessly. All in all, a delightful experience."
