**************************************************
THINGS TO DO: just for starters......
* Option numero uno - chill out from a stressful life, laze on one
of the beaches or walk along the lake path to The Entrance -
maybe bring some of your favorite dvds to relax with or
check ours out on the 26" widescreen format LCD TV. The
DVD player also plays most CD's.
* Life's a beach - and our favorite local Toowoon Bay Beach
won NSW"S Cleanest Beach Award by Keep Aust Beautiful.
This delightful rock sheltered beach is simply PERFECT FOR
FAMILIES and is a mere kilometre away (2mins drive!!!).
Don't forget the beach umbrella and sunscreen during the
summer months!.
* Take your goggles/snorkel/ and flippers and swim
alongside the pods of fish which cruise around the rocks on
the south side of Toowoon Bay beach (aka 'Little Bay").
* Ladies may like to browse the very stylish clothing on offer
at the small boutiques at the "Toowoon Bay Shops"
* Shelley Beach for bigger wave "sik joy" surfing/bodyboarding.
* Everyone mentions the daily 3.30pm Pelican feeding on
the foreshore of The Entrance but it IS fascinating to
observe these magnificent jumbos of the air up close and
personal, and those beaks! You'll see them paddling past
the foreshore of your cabin every day and soaring in
groups above on a sunny day when the thermals are right.
Love 'em.
* Drive high up to Crackneck Lookout (in the separate
Southern half of the Wyrrabalong National Park) and look
all the way down on a huge vista encompassing The
Entrance, Long Jetty and surrounds and the magnificent
expanse of Tuggerah Lake. The North Entrance peninsula
stretches ahead up the endless coastline past the Norah
Head Lighthouse. Its all there right before you. WHALES
ARE OFTEN SEEN from this high vantage point during both
their Northbound and Southbound migration. This is where
the NPWS hosts frequent whale watching sessions.
* Have fun hiring a " putt-putt" motorboat from The Entrance
boathouse on the waterfront southside of The Entrance
Bridge.
* Have a BBQ in the lakeside reserve gazebo just across the
road from your cabin - trouble-free electric ones are kindly
supplied by Council - just bring the ingredients and cook
them to a tee OR use the 4-burner just outside the cabin!.
* Have a swim in The Entrance salt water Ocean Baths
* Fishing spots galore - Estuary or Ocean - local tackle shops
* Take a stroll around The Entrance with its numerous restaurants, cafes, pizzeria, noodle bars, fresh juice bars,
ice cream and gelato bars, famous Jimbo's Fish and Chips, alfresco dining pubs and (in summer months) let the music from live performers wash over you.
Mix in the joyous sounds of kids delighting in the magic fun
of Vera's Water Garden Playground with the green tree lined backdrop of Memorial Park. Take a stroll alongside the very interesting ocean-washed The Entrance Channel which
leads you up to the headland overlooking The Entrance Beach and the broad blue ocean, - another spot that often rewards whale watchers - Thar she blows!!.
* Check out what's on at The Entrance Cinema
* Go a few k's North over The Entrance Bridge and then park the car on the west side at the entry to the Northern half of the Wyrrabalong National Park and go for a long or short circuit bush walk - last time I did it I saw a goanna
shimmying up a tree!!.
* As above but park on the east side of the road (the ocean side) and take a short walk thru the last and now protected
remnants of coastal rainforest to a usually deserted beach.
* As above but drive further North up to the Lake Munmorah
State Conservation Area. Check out some of the high ridge
and headland lookout spots (see "Enter picture gallery" on
this pages top links bar) with breathtaking drops down
ancient pristine rocky cliffs into the crashing surge of the
Tasman Sea (aka Pacific Ocean). I've seen people actually
diving in it!!!
* Visit beautiful pristine Bateau Bay beach just below
Crackneck Point Lookout . Park the car and walk down the
path to the beach. Almost the same as Capt Cook saw it.
+ if your feeling up to it, take a hike up and along "The
Coast Walking Track" thru the (southern section) of the
Wyrrabalong National Park. Continue on to the visually
stunning southerly view from Wyrrabalong Lookout. It
overlooks Forresters Beach and down the coast past
Terrigals' big headland known as "The Skillion".
* For the shoppers theres our local and expanded (Bateau)
Bay Village Shopping Centre -or- the h-u-g-e Westfield
Tuggerah about 15 mins drive away. Another major
mega-mall is Erina Fair about 15-20mins south on The
Entrance Road.
* Surf Board Riding at the more "exposed" beaches like the
renowned Shelley Beach.
* Squash Courts - just around the corner in Toowoon Bay Rd
* Tennis Courts at Bateau Bay + 10 pin bowling
* GOLF - if your into golf, bring your clubs and dont miss
experiencing the exquisite sea-scaped 18 Hole Tuggerah
Lakes Golf Club course at Shelley Beach. Twilight rates in
the afternoon. Other popular courses are at Terrigal and
Wyong. Great brasserie - Lobster dish $24.00 (8/06)
* Prawning - if you've got the gear ...and a fishing license.
* Bring your bicycle/s and explore the area including The
Entrance via our magnificent and very long cycleway.
* Visit another interesting spot just 20 mins away by car -
Terrigal - and experience the sights and sounds of this
very popular restaurant / cafe / boutique mecca in its
beautiful sandy beach /blue ocean setting. Just be careful
parking prior to the completion of the 350 car-park
redevelopment. Yes, Terrigal has "tickets" on itself. If your
fit, take the smooth uphill walk on Terrigals famous
headland "The Skillion" its certainly worth it. Nearby are ace
cafes overlooking the boats riding at anchor!
* If its Sunday, check out the fascinating array of stuff for
sale at the Toukley open air Markets. Bargains galore!
Drop in a see the big white Norah Head Lighthouse
* Night time venues abound, but I haven't got room here, so
suffice it to say the local papers will tune you in to anything
from a small nite-club at The Entrance to big name aussie
and OS stars at the larger venues like the Mingara
Recreation Club / Doyalson-Wyee RSL / and probably the
biggest - the Central Coast Leagues Club. Local papers like
the Central Coast Express are rich in entertainment info.
* Having too much fun? Come home to the Sunset Cabin,
and enjoy one of the many moods of the lake. Take it easy
and put on that new dvd you got (or watch one of ours) and
recuperate for another enjoyable day s-o-m-e-w-h-e-r-e
here on the beautiful Central Coast!
