This house, located on the leafy “Anglesea Hill” has a large open and airy living area looking out onto a large deck set in the tree tops, with distant views of the ocean. The house has been owned by the current family for nearly forty years, and in December 2004 the family completed major improvements designed by one of the daughters, who is an architect. The house displays much character and has a relaxed feel about it, and contains many personal effects belonging to the family. The large living space, with fully glazed picture windows, opens out via double glass doors onto a large (9.8 x 3.6 metre) deck. The timber floors are covered with colourful rugs, and there is comfortable seating for ten at the stripped timber dining table. Indian cottons are used extensively in the lounge area. The new kitchen includes dishwasher, microwave, a large island bench and all the appliances needed for a relaxed family holiday. There is a family bathroom with shower, bath, toilet and vanity basin, and a second toilet with washbasin. There is an external hot water shower (to allow for easy washing of body and surfing gear!!) and ample car parking. The house is on two blocks, with established trees, and a spacious garden setting. The attached photos show views of the house which can be summarised as follows:
Large combined living, dining and kitchen area – all recently upgraded. The living space is large enough to allow people to relax in different groups, in a space separate from the dining table. The kitchen has all new stainless steel appliances, with microwave; frig, under bench oven, and plenty of bench space with stools. The living room has the main tv and vcr.
Large deck set amongst native trees, with outdoor seating and a family barbeque
Three generous sized bedrooms:
Bedroom 1 – double bed and single bed
Bedroom 2 – queen bed and single bed
Bedroom 3 – one double bed, with a single bunk-bed above it, and a second single bed. There is also a TV and DVD in this room – this room also works as a kids’ area for TV, allowing separate TV watching in the main living room by others.
New fully tiled white bathroom (toilet, shower with glass screen, bath and vanity unit)
Second Toilet (with basin)
Outside hot water shower with direct access via the back door into the house.
Washing machine, with drier installed above and washing trough. (The appliances are new)
Outside clothes line
Parking for 3-4 cars on the property, and a generous garden. The house is on a double block.
The house has a games cupboard with the old favorites - Monopoly, scrabble and jigsaws etc.
Anglesea is approx 1 hour 20min drive from the Melbourne CBD and is the 'Gateway to the Great Ocean Road'. The township is a popular coastal resort and the house is located in the “dress circle” area up from the Anglesea River, on the Anglesea Hill, with sea views, a large out door deck, and only 15 min walk down the hill to the local surf beach.
There are many wonderful attractions around the town, from the Anglesea Surf Beach, the golf course (famous for it's hundreds of kangaroos grazing on the fairways) to the amazing bush walks along the coastal cliff tops or in the local forests.
The local movies are just down the hill (walk 5 mins to see the latest flicks in season!!) and the Ripcurl factory at Torquay is a hit with teenagers, with discounted surfing gear - both clothes and boards!!
McMillan Heights is a perfect place from which to explore the Great Ocean Road . Anglesea is at the start of the Great Ocean Road, one of the most scenic roads in Australia. The area includes the breath taking views, long sandy beaches, the famous twelve apostles, Bells Beach, the Otways rain forest, and also interesting features of Australian history. For example the Great Ocean Road is the world's biggest war memorial, built by soldiers back from World War I in honour of their comrades who fell at Gallipoli, the Somme and other battles.
