Description

A private and quiet bush setting, within walking distance to popular bushwalking and rockclimbing sites, as well as the main village and Mt Vic pub.

Karinya is big enough to sleep 8 people comfortably - in addition to the queen and double bedrooms downstairs (with their own separate heating and electric blankets), there is a spacious loft bedroom upstairs, with 4 single beds (2 trundle beds), together with a 2nd television (NB no reception), a DVD player, Nintendo and 3 seater lounge - a 2nd living area, or a perfect kids' retreat! A travel cot, high chair, kids games, books and a toy box are available.

A large lounge/dining area at the rear of the house, with cathedral ceilings and floor to ceiling high windows offering great views of the bushlands towards the valley, opens onto the rear deck with BBQ - a great place to watch the sunset. You might even be lucky enough to catch some kangaroos hopping past.

The slow combustion wood heater offers amazing warmth on colder days and nights, perfect to lounge in front of with a glass of wine ... If preparing a wood fire isn\'t your cup of tea, then there is a gas heater as well.

There is a widescreen plasma television, DVD player, stereo/CD player, boardgames, Nintendo 64 (but being 20 years old, it can be temperamental and isn't guaranteed to always work!), DVDs, books, magazines ...

The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, kettle, toaster, healthgrill, electric frypan and the usual cooking essentials.

Extra provisions include ...
* plenty of firewood
* firelighters and matches
* electric heaters in the downstairs bedrooms + gas heater in the main living area
* washing powder, detergents, toilet paper, tissues, cling wrap, aluminium foil, sauces, cooking oil, salt & pepper - the things you normally forget to pack!

Karinya is very child-friendly - there is a high chair, portacot, kids games, puzzles and books available - safety gates are also available. There is even a swing set in the rear yard for the kids to hang out on.

Doonas and pillows are provided - you just need to bring your own linen (pillowcases and bedsheets) and towels.

Please note - there is a minimum 2 night booking for weekends (Friday & Saturday nights), unless the booking is received the week beforehand, in which case 1 night bookings will be accepted.

Please also note - Karinya has a strict NO PETS policy. Animals are strictly forbidden.

Karinya also has a strict NO SMOKING policy (except on the back deck).

What activities are nearby?

Adventure activities like rockclimbing and bushwalking are literally at Karinya\'s doorstep - popular crags and walks (plus a great lookout over the Kanimbla Valley) are located just down the street from Karinya.

Mt Victoria itself offers a wide range of antique shops, restaurants, the Mt Vic Flicks, not to forget the Mt Vic pub - again, all within walking distance from Karinya.

To the west of Mt Victoria is the Zig Zag Railway and Jenolan Caves - as well as the townships of Lithgow, Orange, Bathurst, all perfect destinations for day-trips.

To the east of Mt Victoria (about 10 min drive) is Katoomba, where you will find the 3 Sisters, Scenic Railway etc.

Mt Victoria is a great place to base yourself while you visit these popular Blue Mountains tourist attractions.

"Karinya", a poem

The following is an entry made in Karinya\'s actual guestbook by Helen of Brisbane in January 2007:

\"When we pulled in the drive, how excited I was
When I saw such a cute little house.
For a holiday, it looked so perfect because
The bush setting and view were just \"grouse\"!
First impressions didn\'t disappoint me at all
This place is fantastic, the best!
So quiet and peaceful you can hear the birds call
As you unwind, relax and just rest.

While the house is superb, the deck\'s truly divine
To just sit and admire the view.
As the sun\'s going down, we enjoy some good wine
Seven days here will just be too few!
Thanks for the chance to catch up with a friend
In a setting \"too good to be true\"!
You\'ve thought of everything - what a Godsend
And I\'m grateful - my thanks go to you.

PS the bed was very comfy!\"

  • "We had a fantastic weekend at Karinya - the house was lovely and the fire kept us warm & cosy! Beautiful area - we did some fantastic walks over the weekend. Could happily have stayed on for a few more days! Would definitely return."

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Karinya. It was the first time our grandchildren had visited the Blue Mountains and they had a great time. They loved their upstairs bedroom especailly as it came with its own TV. The house is very well appointed and we found the gas heating a bonus for instant warmth when we came in from a walk. We sat around in front of the slow combustion stove in the evenings. It certainly heated the whole house."

  • "Location! Location! 'Karinya' was a great home base in which to explore what the Blue Mountain community has to offer. Set amongst the trees, there were sunset views across the valley from the back balcony. My husband and I were surprised to find some great walks just at the end of the street and the other well known walks were only a short drive to Blackheath, Katoomba,Leura and Wentworth Falls. We enjoyed stoking up the cosy fireplace and there was ample heating in the house when the temperatures were below zero outside during our 4 day stay. When it was too cold or wet outside, Karinya had plenty of indoor entertainment activities for us to amuse ourselves. As it's a rental house you'll only need your clothes, food and a good wine but remember to take your linen. We forgot and had to buy sheets. If we're ever back that way, we'll be sure to look up 'Karinya' again...maybe with a few friends next time. There's certainly plenty of room!"

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at Karinya. The house was lovely and welcoming and Melissa has thought of everything. The children loved the loft, and enjoyed having their own little retreat. There was plenty of firewood supplied and the fire was so warm and kept us all cosy :) We love Mount Victoria and the Blue Mountains and would happily return to this beautiful home. Thank you :)"

  • "Beautiful setting, quiet, restful and very comfortable house - would highly recommend to families or small groups. Although the weather was not kind, the fire was wonderful, we had a fantastic weekend and look forward to staying again."

  • "Very cosy home among the gum trees. The house is well equipped and obviously well loved by the owners. We embraced the mountain chills, got the fire crackling and relaxed in comfort. Also be sure to get out for a bushwalk - a short stroll away there are some spectacular views waiting (with none of the tourist crowds) Great value and highly recommended."

  • "This place if fantastic !!! The property is tastefully decorated without being cluttered, and there was every comfort you could have wanted. Our kids just loved the "loft" with the toys, and although for this occasion we only wanted 1 night the price was such that next time we would definitely stay here for longer. One of the reasons we decided to stay here is that they offered a 1 night stay. The only advice I would offer is that the photo of the outside of the house does not do it justice. We almost didn't look further because the photo makes the house look old and uninviting ( which is actually the complete opposite of what it is). The only change we would suggest for this property is that they get some more promotional photos taken of the front of the house. We have suggested this property to other friends who were looking for a different time period, it was the best value (and as it turns out) an absolutely fantastic place to stay. Well done to the owners !!"
