The whale watching season is upon us. Dont miss this spectactular annual migration of the Humpback Whale in the pristine waters of Jervis Bay Marine Park which, combined with the dramatic backdrop of the cliffs of Point Perpendicular and the Bay's white sandy beaches, make Jervis Bay not only a natural playground for whales but the very best place from which to see them. "Minke" has a special arrangement with Dolphin Watch - every guest receives a 10% discount voucher for their stay. The Northern Migration runs in June and July, the Southern Migration in late August to late November.
Hyams Beach is the jewel of the Shoalhaven and acknowledged as one of the world's most beautiful holiday locations. The magnificent sweep of beach is celebrated in the Guinness Book of Records for possessing “the whitest sands in the world”. Minke, the Whalers Cottage, is a couple of minute's walk from one entrance to this superb beach and across the road from a smaller beach with similar white sands. Dolphins are regularly seen passing these two beaches. You can swim, snorkel, dive, watch dolphins and whales, walk along the sand to HMAS Creswell, take the White Sands Walk to Vincentia or explore Booderee National Park.
Our bedroom and sitting room windows face the bay and views are also obtained from the front verandah and side sundeck. There are glass doors between our eat-in kitchen and huge deck (teak furniture and plantation umbrella). The many colourful birds are prolific in the area. We've chess, boules (for the lawn), jig saws, a small but perfectly formed library, TV, videos and more...
A hundred metres from Minke is the village's sophisticated Café and Store which provides excellent breakfast and lunch year round and dinner in summer. In addition, there are plenty of small restaurants and take-aways in Huskisson and Vincentia. For fine dining, we also recommend the Gunyah at Paperbark Camps, Wollemia in summer and Seagrass at Huskisson in winter.
