Description

‘Simpson Cottage’; a beautifully restored 1870’s sandstone cottage, in a parkland setting, with wonderful water views and private access to the beach and Royal National Park.

Why Simpson Cottage?

‘Simpson Cottage’ built in the 1870s was the original home of the Simpson family one of the first settlers south of the Hacking River.

Sensitively restored, this cottage provides a unique experience, where you can enjoy the charm of the old cottage with stylish contemporary living.

The cottage consists of 3 bedrooms, including a queen size bed with water views. The second bedroom offers the versatility of a king bed or 2 singles and the third bedroom has 2 bunk beds which is great for 4 kids. It is a perfect house for 2 families or couples.

Throughout the cottage all the original features have been retained including the sitting room with original fireplace, high ceilings and French doors.

The new timber extension at the back of the cottage contains a bathroom with freestanding bath, laundry and kitchen with underfloor heating.

The gazebo beside the cottage is the dining area that seats 8 with a great view out to the water and park beyond.

There is a short 50 metre track and sandstone stairs, just past the outdoor table, that leads down to the Bonnie Vale Beach and park below.

There is also a renovated garage/ rumpus room and a second bathroom and glass concertina doors onto the garden.

Guest Reviews

  • "My family and I spent a delightful nostalgic four days at Simpson's Cottage. It was a thrill to actually be in the house built by my great-grandparents and where my grandfather was raised. A Bundeena resident told us the original houses like this one have the very best views as the first settlers had their pick of sites to build on! Bundeena is one of the most unspoilt places with ocean views I have ever seen. I think my ancestors would be well pleased if they could see it today. Highly recommend Simpsons Cottage for a tranquil and unique getaway."

  • "Lovely home filled with charm and character. Great verandah and green grass areas to enjoy the beautiful views. Surrounded in trees and birds the cottage was very peaceful. We filled the house with a big group of us. Bedding was very adequate. The gazebo was nice for meals. Common living areas though small if you have a large crowd and it was cold or wet. We had a wonderful relaxing and tranquil stay. "

  • "Had a fantastic girls weekend away at Simpson Cottage. Arrived on the Friday afternoon, after a short drive through the National Park. The Cottage was so lovely and comfortable, with breath taking views of the water. Saturday morning, we strolled down across the beach to the Bundeena township for breakfast. I would recommend Simpson Cottage to anyone who wants a weekend getaway from the city. Highly Recommended"

  • "Beautiful view, beautiful building. The renovations were very nicely done, though the dining room was way too small for our group of 8 and it was too cold for outside dining during our stay. Fantastic verandah for an sunset glass of wine while we listened to the birds and watched the babies crawl about safely on the level and well maintained lawn. Recommended for a wonderful summer getaway."

  • "We absolutely loved our time here. We had two families with six children between us. The beach was great even in May. The house was brilliant and we especially loved the view from the verandah. The cockatoos and parakeets loved to visit us to get an evening snack. Loved the underfloor heating! Would highly recommend. "

  • "We loved this place. The effortless combination of traditional and contemporary means the best of both worlds. It was easy to find yourself drifting back in time trying to imagine the kind of life the first owners must have had, while sipping a nicely chilled Sauvignon in the luxurious bath. There were nice touches throughout the house: ipod player, top notch bbq, a pagoda for quieter moments, a fantastically located outdoor dining area, coffee maker, open fire! We will be coming back!!"

  • "Simpson Cottage was the perfect venue for our family Christmas celebrations. The house oozes old world charm without compromising on modern amenities. The spacious kitchen and bathroom had all the mod cons, while at the same time, blending in fantastically with the old world feel of the rest of the cottage. Our stay there was relaxing and really enjoyable. The property was very cozy but still capable of easily accommodating eight people. We spent most of our time at the outside table, enjoying the magnificent views and taking full advantage of the close proximity to the water for occasional dips. It's a great place to visit and very hard to leave. We'll definitely be back"

  • "Monique, We have just returning from 5 nights at Simpsons Cottage. It was lovely. We were a family group, the age range 11 months to 60. It catered for everyone's needs. The kids loved the big bath. It was so great to have all the mod cons there and a fully equipped kitchen. We enjoyed a day trip to each of the local beaches and afternoons on the lawn and verandah under the shade of the beautiful trees. And all so close to Sydney! You will see us again!"

  • "We had a superfantastisch Hens' Weekend here. The house is fully renovated (polished concrete floors, and wooden floorboards), it is a very short walk down some stone steps to a lovely beach (try playing duck duck goose in the shallows), and if you want extra activities to do there is a book on the kitchen table of pamphlets, articles and fliers to help you choose restaurants, walking trails, kayaking, massage therapy, etcetera. Will definitely return :) Thanks Monique!"

  • " A great spot for any occasion. We celebrated a combined 50th and 60th birthday party. Just perfect for eight ladies sitting around in the gazebo enjoying barbecue meals to our music enjoying the view and visiting birds. The ipod dock was great. The afternoon lazing around on the grass enjoying the water views was the best.We all loved it and would recommend it to everyone. The house is well presented and has everything you need.Thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience this wonderful house. The Ya Ya Sisters. "
