COMMENTS FROM OUR GUESTS..........

After 20 hours on trains and buses we were overjoyed with your beautiful cottage. There is nothing that you have forgotten and it's so clean. Thank you! Best accommodation we have had. Heather & Graeme May 09

Just like grandma's house- soft, warm and cosy. Thoughtful attention to detail and a soft bed to die for! Thank you most kindly. We loved our stay. Keith & Gina May 09

A lovely quaint cottage! - It's just like my grandma's house and brings back happy memories. Pat & Brett Sept. 2008.

The cottage is BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for providing the best accommodation in Broken Hill! Catherine Jackson July 08

After hotel rooms and cabins in caravan parks, how lovely to be in a 'home' again. It was almost too comfortable to leave and see all that Broken Hill had to offer. We enjoyed staying at MR. Thanks for your hospitality! Best Wishes. Oct. 08

Back again almost 2 years to the day! There is something special about this cottage! Pam Nov. 08

Having arrived on my way to Kalgoolie I was lucky enough to ring you first. The experience staying at 'A Miner's Rest' was wonderful and worth every cent! I will recommend your house to all I know. Thanks! David Mitchell Nov 08

Three nice days in the house of a thousand roses. Danke! Johannes Berlin, Germany June 07

SOME LOCAL BROKEN HILL INFORMATION THAT MIGHT INTEREST YOU......................

Broken Hill is an ancient land with miraculous sunsets. Mutawinji has wonderful ancient aboriginal art and Mungo National Park is one of the world's foremost archaeological sites.

Silverton, an old mining town, is only a short drive away. Visit the historic Day Dream mine, stop off at the old Silverton Pub where the 'Mad Max' epics were filmed, or ride a camel in the desert. Wander around the art galleries and chat with the artists, photograph the Mundi Mundi plains (which go on forever), or become refreshed in the old cafe on the hill while you enjoy their collections of old bottles, bits and pieces, and old dolls.

Visit the many artist's studios and enjoy the diversity of art in Broken Hill, and of course a visit to Pro Hart's art collection s a must!

Swim or boat at Copi Hollow, Menindee, or the local swimming pool. Play golf or visit the Living Desert sculptures and enjoy the wild flower and fauna walking trails, where you will see a kangaroos feeding at close range or emus wandering around looking for a handout!

Wander down Argent Street and admire the old buildings. Visit White's Museum which will explain to you how mining works, or take a guided tour around the city's attractions. Visit the Geo Centre full of amazing mineral samples or drive the 40km 'Silver Trail' visiting 113 interesting sites.

Listen in on the 'School of the Air' or visit the Royal Flying Doctor base at the airport, but whatever you do don't miss 'The Big Picture'!

Your only problem with 'Things To Do' is the amount of time you have in Broken Hill - there's always something else to see or another place to go!

HAPPY EXPLORING!

TASTY EATING AND NIGHTLIFE

Cafes, Restaurants, Pubs and Clubs abound! Eating out, or ordering in, is not a problem.

We enjoy the Broken Earth Restaurant/Discovery Centre on top of the mines for that romantic or quiet dinner (a tad expensive tho). Probably bettter for morning or afternoon tea if you want to admire the view. The Astra Hotel is also an upmarket, relaxing place to dine for a special meal (more reasonable prices, especially the wine).

The Musician's Club is comfortable and reasonably priced for lunch and they have child minding and the Internet available. The Democratic Club do reasonable steaks (cheap but nice meals) as does the Legion Club (dancing on Sat. nights) , and the Mulga Tavern caters for kids and parents alike.
'Alfresco's' is good and reasonably priced, and Pubs are everywhere so you'll not have a problem finding one!

If you would rather do your own thing, Woolworths supermarket is at Centro and Foodland in Blende St. The towns' butchers sell really great meat (try their hogget chops!).

There are plenty of coffee shops in the main street and, of course, a McDonalds is three minutes away at the Centro shopping centre, Subway in the main street and great Fish and Chips shops in Oxide St and a good Chinese restaurant cnr Oxide and Crystal Sts.

Failing that, you can order in - look in the phone book at the cottage for a selection or in the notes we leave for your perusal. ENJOY!

  • "Our two kelpies loved this place! There was an enormous backyard for them to run around in, and the yard is enclosed so we could let them go for it. We loved the cottage too - it was very good value for money and everything you needed was there. My wife who's a romantic said it was so pretty and loved staying there. We could recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a place for their pets."
