A feature of Camden Head is the resident wildlife with koalas, wallabies, possums, native birdlife and dolphins all part of the day-to-day life. Walking trails in the Kattang national park give access to some of the most spectacular unspoilt coastal landscape and vegitation on the Mid North Coast.
Gull Cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday for families, groups or couples wanting all the attractions of the Mid North Coast. Surf, swim, fish, bushwalking, catch a movie or pick up a bargain at the Riverside Markets, or just relax on the deck amongst the birdlife and magnificent views.

Camden Head

Just to the east of Dunbogan and Laurieton, Camden Head is an exclusive residential area with glorious views north to Port Macquarie and west to North Brother Mountain. The area features walking trails through Kattang nature reserve, and excellent views from Point Perpendicular along South Beach to Diamond Head in the Crowdy Bay National Park. A trail down to the sea allows you to discover deep water rock pools with a variety of sea life, excellent rock fishing, surfing and sun-baking.

For swimming, Pilot Beach is nestled next to the river breakwall with safe 'bay' swimming for the littlies. Wash House Beach is separated by the dummy breakwall and has good open beach surfing, rock fishing and exploring.

Camden Head Pilot Station is a rare surviving intact group of buildings at the mouth of the Camden Haven River. The site was used as a Pilot Station from 1890 -1975 with the original Pilot house built in 1907. The current building dates from 1950. It is currently the subject of a conservation redevelopment, funded in part by Hastings Council, the NSW Ministry of the Arts and the Department of Land and Water Conservation, which will make the facilities available for nature writing, environmental education and community activities.

The Camden Haven - What to do and see.

Camden Head is part of the Camden Haven area located 30 kms south of the city of Port Macquarie on the mid north coast of NSW, and five minutes from the commercial centre of Laurieton. The Camden Haven River runs from the foothills of the Great Dividing Range to the sea, where the three holiday towns of North Haven, Laurieton and Dunbogan are located. The North Brother Mountain, in Dooragang National Park, which provides a spectacular backdrop to the area and scenic views from its summit, dominates the area.

The area is surrounded by National Parks, providing bushwalks with spectacular scenery. There are vast lakes, the river system and a number of beaches, both wild and sheltered, allowing unlimited access to water based activities. The hinterland area provides for scenic drives, spectacular rainforest walks with waterfalls, not to mention the renowned Macadamia Farm Cafe at Lorne and the Udder Cow Cafe at Comboyne.

Surfing, fishing (river, lake, beach and deep sea), scuba diving and snorkeling, bushwalking, scenic drives, swimming, hang gliding and paragliding, windsurfing, waterskiing, cycling, horseriding, boating and canoeing, cruises, National Parks and Nature Reserves, forests, picnics, golf, tennis, squash, bowls, wine tasting, movies.

  • "We have just had the most lovely relaxing holiday at Gull Cottage. The house was perfect! Spacious and beautifully decorated, the kitchen was well stocked and we loved sitting on the deck watching the sunsets over the water. The area was fabulous also. There were so many different beaches and things to do and explore for all ages from swimming with the dolphins to kayaking. Mostly, it was a great house to do lots of not very much. The perfect family holiday."

  • "Quintessential beach house with beautiful decor. Perfect location for those with little ones. With kid friendly, pilot's beach down the rd, and lots of wildlife friends visiting the house (possum, kookaburras, koala in the tree across the rd)."

  • "Gull Cottage provided the perfect base from which to explore the wonderful surroundings of Dunbogan, Camden Head and North Haven. We spent days swimming at Pilot Beach, afternoons kayaking on the river and the early evenings exploring the rock pools of Washhouse Beach. It was a great place to enjoy the perfect Aussie beach holiday!"

  • "We loved our stay at Gull Cottage. As paragliders we appreciated the view from the balcony over the water straight onto North Brother mountain. The abundant wildlife around the cottage was a huge bonus. Will stay again for sure. Many thanks. "

  • "Big airy nicely decorated place walking distance from two different types of beaches. Well appointed, and perfect for children -- not too fancy, but still tasteful and comfortable, in great location. Will definitely return."

  • "We had a great week at Gull Cottage. The location is superb with the river on one side of the house and the beach on the other. We loved having a choice of both surf beach and bay within metres of each other. The kitchen was very well appointed and drinks on the deck overlooking the river was a great way to end each day. We'll definately be visiting again!"
