Description

We Are accepting bookings now for our two bedroom cottage at Camden Head. Situated on the Camden Haven River , we have filtered water and mountain views through the last remnant of littoral rainforest in the Hastings Shire. Here, kangaroos, koalas and abundant bird-life live in balance with over 50 species of native trees.

There is much to enjoy and discover in this unspoiled area. The house is comfortable and cosy. You won’t find any discarded furniture here, everything was bought or built for it. It has a new modern kitchen, new furniture, clothes dryer, DVD, stereo. We have purposely not fitted air-conditioning for environmental reasons and the sea breezes are very reliable. Queen size bed to main bedroom and two singles to the second.

We are halfway between Taree and Port Macquarie and about 4 hours from Sydney .

What to See and Do

A short walk through the historic precinct, past shipwreck graves, to Googley’s Lagoon will bring you to the river for fishing or just plain leisure. Closer still, through the old Pilot Station, is the still-water Pilot Beach for the kids or laps if you’re so inclined. Adjacent and just over the break-wall is the Wash-house Beach , for surfing, fishing and rock pools. This is an off-leash beach for dogs and appears as it has for thousands of years. It is in pristine condition.

Just above and also a short walk from the house, is the Kattang Nature Reserve, home to rare species. Jutting out into the sea, it provides spectacular views and whale watching opportunities, in season.

A five minute drive to south Beach will reveal a 20km stretch of pristine beach where you’ll be unlucky if you find anyone else there! Continue past one of our favourite spots, through the National Park to Diamond Head for more great fishing and some friendly interaction with tame kangaroos.

On the other side of the river you can drive to the top of Big Brother Mountain , named by Captain James Cook on his passage north from Port Jackson. Take warm clothing, even in summer, as it is very high and can be chilly – just ask the hang-gliders. Here you can take in spectacular views over the whole Camden Haven area to the east and on the other side, Wallis Lakes to the south-west.

Another short drive, about 20 minutes, to Bago Vineyard and a bit further to Cassegrain Vineyard at Port Macquarie will put you within reach of fine varietal wines, great jazz and fine dining.

Pet Friendly

And last but not least, we welcome your well behaved pets and are fully fenced for smaller dogs. Ours is too lazy to jump over it. We believe that we are the only pet friendly rental property in the area. We do insist; no pets on the furniture. We have a double garage for pets than can bear it. We do encourage you to keep your dogs restrained at night for the safety of the koalas.

  • "It is a nice house with simple furnishings but comfortable. Good fenced yard if you are bringing your dog. Great location, only a <5 minute walk to a great little beach and park with all facilities. It was nice to look out the window and see other people walking their dogs off leash past the house to and from the beach."
