  • "Our time at the Painted Fish was lovely. Tim and Shani and what they have achieved are a real inspiration. Our 4 year old loved the frogs and helping with the watering and we all loved the fresh corn and tomatoes. It is also a very handy location and the CAT bus and being able to use the bikes made a trip to Freo proper very easy. We will certainly be back."

  • "The Painted Fish is wonderful. It was like having our own private villa with our gorgeous garden, frog ponds and wonderful Japanese Peppertree. This is a fine example of sustainable living and we will take many ideas home with us. We picked vegetables from the gardens for our dinner and sat and drank our wine to the chorus of frogs (ear plugs are provided if you are to citified). Also loved the pushbikes we borrowed to ride into Fremantle."

  • "One of the best sleeps ever on the road -- some frogs croaking only made it more peaceful. Absolutely loved the outdoor shower and use of bicycle for my stay -- the only way to get around Fremantle! And Shani and Tim are absolutely wonderful -- can't wait to get back."
    Joni, May 2008

  • "Extraordinary place that really is like no other. Stay if you are open-minded, relaxed and out-of-the-ordinary. Don't stay if you are a Holiday Inn type. Lovely owners with real convictions. Ecofriendly. Comfortable bed. Shower under the stars. Just a short walk to the beach"

  • "I stayed in the Carriage and absolutely fell in love with it. The relaxing atmosphere made me wish that I had booked it for more than one night. I loved the secluded garden, the water feature, the outdoor tiled table and chairs. The cast iron bed was not only decreative but comfy, the pictures added a touch of uniqueness and everything you needed was provided. I even liked the outdoor shower - I felt like I was at a island. Out of the accomodation venues that I stayed in, The Painted Fish was by far the best! "

  • "lovely and private place, a little different, personal and refreshingly unconventional. would go back and stay for longer anytime. "

  • "I was lucky enough to stay at the Painted Fish in the studio twice in about 6 weeks while on work trips to Freo. For someone who dislikes the whole hotel scene and is concious of sustainable living.... the Fish is perfect for the soul! I couldn't have felt more 'at home' up among the trees being lulled to sleep by the frogs. Thanks so much Shani and Tim (the amazing hosts!) for creating such a special oasis. You know I will be back again (and again)! "
    Fiona, December 2007

  • "Never got so excited about the set up of my accommodation. Never found so many beautiful details where I stayed. Never felt so home on a holiday. Never had the pleasure to enjoy a hot shower outside! Great place, run by great people. Big thanks to my girlfriend who found this place ;)"
