There are very few north facing beaches on the east coast. The best thing about Point Lookout is that if one beach is a bit blown-out, just go around the corner to another beautiful beach. North Straddie offers many options for your holiday.
Straddie Beach Cabin is a secluded free-standing eco cabin (Shack 18) that offers privacy within the island's premier Allure Resort. Located at beautiful Home Beach in Point Lookout, it is set in leafy natural surrounds and caters for singles and couples. It has everything needed to make your stay a pleasurable one, with most of the islands attractions nearby.
The stylish architect designed high-set one-bedroom eco cabin offers a practical, inspirational design, with a mezzanine bedroom featuring a queen size bed. The cabin is air-conditioned with open plan lounge/dining, modern kitchenette, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, big screen plasma TV, DVD/CD & Foxtel service. The baby Weber Q hangs off the extended rear deck which is secluded by a beautiful natural screen of native greenery.
Guests have access to the resort's pool (one of the best on the island) and a small gymnasium.
Wireless internet access is available from reception at reasonable rates and the great on-site Harlequin Cafe/Deli offers great breakfasts, lunches and a quality barista.
In the words of a recent guest: "We absolutely loved Stradbroke - our first visit and thought your beach shack was great, especially the deck which made it very private. It was a perfect place to stay. We would certainly ask for No 18 if we were to return".

My wife and I had a perfect 2days at this property. The accommodation was clean and relaxing. The bird life while sitting on the deck was peaceful and the walks to the beach only minutes away.
Rene treated me with perfection from the first inquiry until our departure. I would very highly recommend and will be looking at returning at a later date for a longer stay

My husband and I spent 10 days in the Beach Shack. We wanted to relax somewhere close to Brisbane where there are beautiful beaches without staying at a "tourist trap." As Americans, we realized the good value of Straddie Beach Shack versus so many other AU island accommodations. We were not disappointed. The a/c worked wonderfully well, the bed was comfortable, and the kitchen had just enough pots, pans, plates, etc. for us to make quick meals. We were most appreciative of the excellent communication (via e-mail) with the owners.
We got the impression the lady at the front desk of what is now called "All Seasons" (where Straddie Beach Shack is located) would have preferred to take a hands-off approach to us (when we told her we were renting #18)---she didn't even let us explain that we only wanted to pay for wireless internet through her office---which the owners instructed us to do. That was a bit "off-putting." In the end, we were very pleased with the low cost of one week of wireless internet (I think it was $30 for the entire week. A bargain in
Australia!).
We enjoyed the short stroll (less than 5 minutes walk) to the beautiful and practically empty beach (It was non-peak..) that a has lovely trees to use as shade while at the beach. By the way, it's a DOG FRIENDLY BEACH. We enjoyed watching the dogs have the time of their lives!
We got our daily exercise by walking up to the grocery store and liquor store (bottle shop); but it wasn't too strenuous of a walk. It's uphill going up and downhill coming back and takes about 20 minutes. We were told that All Seasons will drive/shuttle guests into the small town of Pt. Lookout; but only in the late afternoon. We never used them.
For meals, the Bowl's Club next door offers affordable dinners. We found it odd that the bar wanted cash for our bottle of wine and the restaurant accepted our credit card (or was it the other way around?). When you're hungry and don't want to cook or walk too far, I would recommend the Bowl's Club.
About 10-minute's walk (in the direction of Pt. Lookout) and you can dine at the Stradbroke Hotel (which is where the liquor store/bottle shop is located---in the basement/lower level---take the elevator down), where you'll have an excellent view of the water while dining.
Also, the large flat-screen TV was much appreciated. In addition to the loal channels, a few extras have been added (through Foxtel, as I recall), and you have the option of listening to the music channels through the TV.
We enjoyed sitting out on the nice deck/patio in the afternoon, hand-feeding the local kookaburras who came for a free snack. There was another bird that made us laugh with its huge vocabulary. We never tired of listening to the birds. The "bush setting" while sitting on the back deck/patio made the Australian experience more enjoyable.
Not only would I stay at Straddie Beach Shack again, I have also recommended it to other Americans who occasionally fly in the Brisbane from their expatriate job assignment in Papua New Guinea.

Probably my best stay at Stradbroke Island! The cabin is extremely homey with everything we needed. Plenty of space for a one-week stay. The deck outside was a great bonus, set outward amongst the garden it created a great atmosphere. The additional ability to access the resort's pool, internet, etc was fantastic.

We spent 2 nights at the cabin. It is very conveniently located - close to a stunning beach and away from the road. Really effortless to reach the beach. There are walks towards Lookout Point where we saw whales and dolphins while sipping a latte at the LookOut Cafe. The cabin itself is stylish, modern and well maintained and had everything we needed - including a verandah overlooking a gorgeous Australian native garden. The cabin was cold but once we worked out how to use the reverse cycle aircon and the fan to circulate the warm air, we were very comfortable. Getting there was very easy - we parked in Cleveland, took the water-taxi to Dunwich and got the bus which dropped us right outside the complex. Even though the cabin is located in a bigger complex we didn't feel as though we were crowded. I would recommend Straddie Beach Cabin to anyone looking for a getaway close to Brisbane.

Great set up in the cabin, perfect for two people wanting to get away from it all. Very clean, modern and comfortable, and must be well-insulated as it was nice inside even with the cold outside!
Very convenient location-wise too, such a beautiful beach across the road. We'll definitely be returning to stay here again!

Hi Rene and Julie,
What a wonderful piece of paradise! Loved you cabin- everything one needs to chill out and relax. Straddi is better than i hoped, not at all touristy in a built up way. Very nice to go to sleep listening to the surf on the beach and wake up to the native birds.I esp loved the little fern walk across the rd to the squeeky white beach- beautiful!
Cheers heaps- we look forward to our next visit!

We had a lovely stay at the Straddie Beach Cabin. We liked the design, providing everything we needed yet compact. It is perfect for two people and in my opinion it is everything a beach cabin should be. We were happy with the location with beach access only a short walk away, directly across the road. Rene and Julie were a pleasure to deal with.

Straddie Beach Cabin is well located and merely a stone's throw to some lovely beach spots, which were lovely to walk along in the early morning and to also enjoy for some R&R and paddling in the warm water in the afternoon. With its own cafe, I was still able to get my caffeine fix, plus it is nice and close to amenities, where I could also pick up some fresh supplies to eat in with my family.
The cabin itself was well equipped with everything I needed to stay in for a meal and i enjoyed eating my brekkie and having a bbq in the company of the local birds, nestled in the trees only metres from the decking.
I went on some lovely coastal walks and saw dolphins and whales, which was just awesome. And I had the most amazing shiatsu massage by a lovely lady called Linda - I felt like i was in heaven amongst the tree tops!
Definitely a must-visit spot - lots to offer, without the hustle and bustle of tourists that you get on the mainland.
Check it out!
