Ocean Grove:
Watch the ships pass in and out of the Port Phillip heads from the living areas and balcony of this amazing house in Ocean Grove.
Stunning 180 degree view from Point Lonsdale to the Bluff at Barwon Heads.
Just a short stroll (2 blocks) takes you to the beach! Situated in 'The Terrace' the house is also an easy walk to the main shopping centre and restaurants.
Year round you can enjoy the sun on the large elevated balcony whilst watching the surf, having a barbeque or just taking in the magnificent views. In the chilly months you can be cosy by the open fire (wood provided) watch a DVD or play a boardgame (provided).
The White House is a two storey home with 4 extra large bedrooms downstairs and two living areas upstairs to capture the fantastic views!! It has 2 bathrooms downstairs plus toilet/vanity upstairs. The main bathroom includes a spa bath and there is an en-suite off the main bedroom, laundry, open fire place, air conditioning, plenty of space to park cars /boat with a double garage, and table tennis also!
Bedding configuration:
Main bedroom - 1 queen bed.
2nd bed - 1 queen bed.
3rd bed - 1 queen bed, 1 single bed.
4th bed - 1 queen bed, 3 singles.
2 single mattresses provided extra (if required).
Own linen required or linen available at a cost of $17 per person per booking.
Small pet allowed - need to get approval with booking.
Ocean Grove is less than an hour and a half drive from Melbourne. The main attraction is the surf beach which is patrolled during summer and is one of the most popular and safe in the area. You can learn to surf if you like and there is plenty of space on the beach for a game of cricket etc.
Just down the road is Barwon Heads with the well known historic bridge from 'Seachange'. Barwon Heads offers an alternative place for the kids to swim and also has a boat ramp providing access to the ocean to do some fishing! or just fish along the river or off the beach!
New attraction in the area is the scuttled Naval ship HMAS Camberra off the Ocean Grove beach (in about 30m of water). The ship is complete with much of its original equipment and forms a fantastic artificial reef providing a haven for divers and fish!!
There are two separate shopping centres in Ocean Grove to satisfy all your needs. Shops include Coles supermarkets, clothing, surf, gifts, pharmacies, bakeries, butchers, green grocers, fish 'n chips, hardware, manchester, shoes, toys, bikes, jewellers, hairdressers, newsagent, bottle shops, post office and banks. There are also dental and medical centres, fitness clubs, beauty salons, chiropractor, massage, plus real-estate and travel agents.
You are also not far from the big surf shops and factory outlets at Torquay.
Good surfing spots are in close proximity for the keen surfer including Ocean Grove main beach, K.N's, Raffs and 13th Beach.
Ocean Grove now has a great selection of coffee shops in the main street (The Terrace). Stroll along The Terrace on a Sunday morning and enjoy breakfast at Blue Fin cafe (right down the other end of the shops). Also 'Foam' is great for coffee and the 'Rolling Pin' bakery (located round the back in the Coles car park) - great pies!
There is a great choice of local restaurants including:
- historic 'Oakdene' (on Grubb Road), an early 1900's country home transformed into a top class restaurant - great food!! (take the car - 5 mins)
- 'The Bark Hut' restaurant is also very good and popular - walk to this one! Note: bookings are essential for both these two restaurants
- good for a relaxing meal is The Heads Restaurant at Barwon Heads pier! Great views!
- the Barwon Heads pub is great for a pub meal!
- Madeley Street Pizza (includes gluten free) is the best around
- there is a good selection of other places including fish and chips, Thai, etc
- try The Dunes at the main surf beach with views to Barwon Heads Bluff and the Point Lonsdale lighthouse; watch the ships go through to Port Phillip Bay. They serve meals from hearty breakfasts to delicious lunches and dinners.
Most of these places are an easy walk from The White House
For the keen golfer the Bellarine Peninsula offers many fine courses (most within 10 to 15 mins drive of the house) including:
. 13th Beach (Nick Faldo design)
. Barwon Heads
. Queenscliff - on Swan Island
. Point Lonsdale
. Curlewis.
Sightseeing:
. Begola Wetlands - variety of waterbirds - opposite the house!
. the Great Ocean Road - not far to drive
