Description

Rayville stud a jersey/freisan (holstein) dairy cattle working farm from the 1800's till 2003. Becoming a stud farm in 1954.
The homestead being a slab hut was the original home first built on the property in 1883 with its hand sawn timber slabs.
The second Sawtell generation pulled the homestead down in 1949 and the hand sawn timber slabs which were cut in 1883 were used again on a grand hayshed built on the property. Then in 2003 by the third generation of Sawtells, these slabs were removed from the grand hayshed and used for the rebuilding of the original homestead of 1883. In preserving our history, the Hon. Gary Nairn, opened the homestead in January 2005. Should you be looking to step back in time and experience how life was back in 1883 and enjoy the simple things in life, playing cards in a traditional Australian country cottage. Fresh rain water from the tank only a few steps from outside the cottage. Enjoy a cuppa from the kettle on the pot belly stove and relax on the front verandah whilst you check out the country views along with the geese, ducks, chooks, cattle and sheep which roam around the property. There is also a fenced yard attached to the homestead where your pets are welcome and this also allows your vehicle/s to be enclosed away from the farm animals also. Whilst the homestead has been replicated as closely as possible to 1883 it does now offer some modern day comforts such as electricity, gas and electric stove, fridge and a television with an outdoor gas BBQ. The amenities block which has shower, toilet and laundry is approximately 40 meters from the homestead. Parking permitted inside the enclosed yard, definately room for all, boat, caravan, campervan or car.

Guest Reviews
Very nice, comfortable and private cottage for two with beautiful views from rear veranda. Plenty of friendly pets (geese, ducks, chooks etc) around.

At the risk of spoiling one of the South Coast's best-kept secrets - this was pretty much a perfect week away at a bargain price.

The homestead is a unique blend of rustic and romantic, and Pam does everything she can to turn the basic facilities into a little bit of luxury (our New Year's stay was greeted with chocolates and party poppers). Pam & Ray also managed to find the right balance between respecting our privacy and making us feel part of the family.

As the website mentions, the homestead is part of a working property and also a reflection of colonial life. It's a fabulous single-room hut with a functional kitchen and sumptuous double bed. The amenities block is separate (although appropriately close by and private), you'll be washing up on the verandah (great view!), and you will have to navigate numerous geese, ducks, hens and maybe the odd sheep.

If you're used to luxury accommodation with all the mod cons, then I'll admit this might not be for you. However, if you don't need all the trimmings to have a great holiday, and you're after a memorable atmosphere and a great place to escape from the city, I can highly recommend Rayville Stud.

Old fashioned acommodation with old world charm. Alos great value, I would have gladly paid more. The hosts are friendly and charming.

The separate toilet and bathroom facilities are close by and for your on private use.

Can't agree with prevous review that it is not private. It is close to the main home but you can't be seen or heard. I am also happy that dogs are not allowed in the cabin as I am allergic to fleas.

Really reccomend if you want to get away from it all but still be close to beaches etc.

Wonderful stay. Old style cabin with old fashioned charm. Separate toilet and shower but this is quite close and is only for your private use.

Can't agree that it is not private. It is close to main house but can't be seen or heard from there. Great hosts. I am glad they don't let people keep dogs inside as I am allergic to fleas.

The property is nice , however , it is not private and is very close to the main property. The premise is not dog friendly , unless your dog is suppose to be outside and sleep under the house.
