Situated in a quiet loop street, this comfortable family home is available for short and medium term lets. Rather than stay at a B&B, rent an entire house. You will be less than a 5 minute walk from the popular Watson shops which provide groceries, a post office, a take-away, restaurants, hair salons and more. Plus bus connections to anywhere in Canberra. EPIC is within walking distance.
Cook at home inside in the well equipped kitchen or outside under cover on the BBQ.
Cockatoo House has one bedroom with a queen bed, one bedroom with bunks, one bedroom with a double bed and a study with another single bed. A portacot is available.
Two living areas provide plenty of space. However, some people with back conditions have found our sofas too low for their comfort.
The Canberra Attractions
There is so much to see in Canberra and lots of it is free! Don't miss Old Parliament House or the War Memorial Museum to get a close up look at our history. Visit the Australian National Museum, Questacon, the National Gallery of Australia, the Botanic Gardens and Lake Burley-Griffin. If you visit the High Court or Parliament House at the right time you will see democracy in action!
Other Places of Interest
Other things to see around the Canberra area are the Zoo, Gold Creek Village and Mt Stromlo. Plus, right on your doorstep you can explore the Mt Majura nature reserve and have a personal encounter with the kangaroos!
You need JavaScript enabled to select dates on the property calendar. A booking/enquiry can still be made via the "Request a booking or make an enquiry" form.
This was an ideal property for my three brothers and myself when we visited Canberra recently for a four day tour of the War Memorial and the museums. The house was clean with a well fitted out kitchen, confortable beds and great shower. We would use again.

Cockatoo House is placed in a great location, which we found very accessible to the City Centre. The house has off street parking big enough for 2 large cars and amble room for 2 families (8 altogether in my party)to enjoy. The house is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy a self contained holiday and is comfortable (the kids loved the sunroom a magnificant area for them to play, etc). Local shops have great trading hours which we found useful on a number of occasions!!! We found Louisa to be an amazing communicator accommodating all our needs for an enjoyable holiday, a 'personal touch' we valued. Thank you for being attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed Cockatoo House which was VERY affordable.

My wife and I along with her SIster and her husband had two weeks in Canberra for Floriade. Cockatoo Houe was a home away from home. All that we needed was there.

This property is perfect for a family stay in the Canberra suburbs, as it is close to the city, roomy, furnished adequately but basically so one doesn't have to worry about damaging furniture, and nice and toasty warm in winter.

Even though the property was clean and tidy and centrally located we were extremely dissapointed. Many of the issues/problems we encountered were also mentioned in the guestbooks previously and have not been addressed by the owner at all. The water pipes squeaked and hammered so loudly it is impossible to even watch tv if someone is showering, wakes small children up and you had to talk at the top of your lungs to be heard (no exageration), no clothes dryer, no mirrors over sink in bathroom so you cant shave, old op shop lounges that are so uncomfortable we all sat on the floor, old appliances continually tripping the fuse box, noisy fan on gas heater, dvd player doesnt work, no bath, the smallest shower cubicle making it impossible to shower small children. We were on a budget and thought after reading the feedback from others from many months and years ago that many of these issues must have been resolved. We were wrong. Ask the owner before you book if all of these issues habe been addressed so you wont be as dissapointed as we were. We paid $695 for 3 nights. We should have stayed at a hotel even if it was a little smaller. We too didnt address these issues with the owner at the time as we knew everything else in Canberra was booked out leaving us with no option but to stay put. Sorry the truth is the truth and your page mentions none of these issues. Very misleading.

The property was very large and well suited to a large group staying, perhaps two families, or friends meeting in Canberra from other cities. The house was very 'homey', with comfortable beds and an abundance of pillows. A portacot was provided at no extra cost. The kitchen had a good range of pans, utensils, plates etc - though we couldn't find a lemon squeezer! There was an abundance of hot water, and I really appreciated the washing machine and under-cover washing line. Some downsides - only one toilet made mornings a bit strained with a large group staying, and while the bathroom was clean and nice, there was no bathtub, which made washing small kids a bit tricky. Some of the floorboards were quite creaky which could bother a light sleeper, and we found the water pipes quite loud, particularly when showering. Also on the noise front the neighbour has a huge aviary which means guests may be awoken by birdsong. I found the magpies were up and singing before the neighbour's flock though. Overall a good budget-friendly choice for our large group attending a function at EPIC, just a short walk away. Watson shops were close and there were many nice restaurants and a pool at Dickson, about a 10 minute drive away. Thanks for having us :)

Our family of adults enjoyed our stay at Cockatoo House as we were able to relax and spread out in separate areas. We were pleased to arrive from Brisbane to efficient and warm heating in the house on an extremely cold Canberra day. After staying in apartments in town over the years, we found Cockatoo House located in a quiet suburb with shops and cafes not too far away. The house offered all we needed for our week-long stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of holidaying in the capital city.

The photos bear no resemblance of what this place actually looked like. The garden very untidy and first impressions always count.Inside the house itself was clean until you looked at the oven this had not been cleaned for many months, there were some frying pans and othe metal cooking trays that should have been thrown out they were that bad.we were left with only one towel between two of us ,We were so annoyed did not want to confrnot the owner with these problems .Reading her in house guestbook most on the problems we came across wnet back 4 years and had still not been addressed,This place needs updating,I felt the price we paid was excessive. The owner obviously feels she does not need to update, sorry but you do.

A lovely clean and well equipped property close to the city centre. Cockatoo House allowed us to have a lovely Mid-way meeting point from Sydney and Ballarat. We ate out every lunch and dinner, but the house certainly would have provided all the home comforts for cooking(if you so desire). I would love the gas oven at home!! Central heating and gas fireplace gorgeous and warm. Friendly and helpful owners. Thank you. We had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the War Memorial, Austn National Museum, Old Parl. House, the sailing club and the Old bus depot markets. Competitively priced. Would stay again. Thanks. House so big it would be perfect for a family or a number of friends.
