Kuranda was founded in 1876 and inhabited by the Djabugay aboriginal people. Tourism began in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century and became very popular in the 1960's with the "hippie" generation for it offered a fabulous location for their alternative lifestyle.

Kuranda is surrounded by World Heritage listed wet tropics rainforest with approximately 1,200 species of flowering plants, 800 of which are rainforest trees.

Guest Reviews

  • "Thank you for providing such a wonderful place to stay. It was lovely to cook breakfast in our own kitchen and have so much space after four days at Cape Tribulation. We enjoyed the Kuranda Veranda Restaurant last night for dinner and recommend it to fellow travellers for the food, service and atmosphere. We wish we had another week of holidays to see all that Kuranda has to offer, but hope to come again some time."
