A LITTLE ABOUT THE AREA, AND LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:

*KINGSCLIFF*

With an average temperature of 24°C, stunning beaches and a fantastic smorgasbord of restaurants, Kingscliff is becoming one of Australia's top holiday destinations.
Kingscliff is part of the Tweed Coast situated on the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia, about 30 minutes south of the Gold Coast and just 30 minutes North of Byron Bay. With 2km of golden sandy beaches stretching from Cabarita to Fingal, Kingscliff is just perfect for the family holiday.
Kingscliff has a great stretch of patrolled golden beaches that are great for surfing, rock fishing, swimming or just soaking up the sun. Various water sports, canoeing, crab fishing and River cruises are the many sun soaked activities waiting for you on the Tweed River.
Below are some local attractions and things to do in Kingscliff and surrounding areas.

*SWIMMING*

Take advantage of the range of swimming options available at Peppers Balé. Take a dip in the private 20m heated pool and spa - reserved for Beach House guests, or try the Grand Tropical Beach Lagoon at the Resort. Pepper Balé guests can use all Hotel Resort facilities.

*BEACH ACTIVITIES*

For a little more swimming, venture down to the Ocean beach, patrolled by the Salt Surf Life Saving Club. This is a popular destination for surfers, sun-lovers, and people eager to do a little fishing, whether it is river or beach fishing, and those who just want a lazy, family holiday. The beaches in the Kingscliff area are particularly beautiful and far less crowded than the more popular beaches further north.

*WHALE WATCHING TOURS*

Tweed Heads coast line (Gold Coast) has the longest whale watching season for seeing the humpback whales as they travel pass Tweed Heads (Gold Coast) to the warmer waters off Hervey Bay to mate and give birth. Heading south they pass Tweed Heads (Gold Coast) showing off their new baby calves, being very playful and proud parents.
It is the ultimate "back to nature experience" for those who want to be a part of the Humpback whales elements.

Whale season is also a must to see!! The timing of the migration period varies every year depending on a number of factors such as water temperature, predators, sea ice, food supply and location of feeding grounds.

Most humpbacks migrate north between June and August, returning to the Southern Ocean between September and November.

*SNORKELING WITH TURTLES*

Snorkelling Season - The water on the Gold Coast and around Cook Island don't get very cold during winter. As a result, tour companies run their Snorkelling trips year round and provide wetsuits during winter.
Cook Island was discovered by Captain Cook in 1770. Cook Island is also known to the locals as Turtle Island a home to many of these marine creatures. Cook Island is a Marine Reserve full of activity. The island is not far from Fingal shore (on the border between NSW and QLD) and is a popular diving spot for tourists because of its great variety in marine life. Some marine creatures you may encounter on your adventure are turtles, the harmless Leopard Shark, a variety of tropical fish including the protected Blue Grouper, Star Fish in their natural habit and so much more.

*DEEP SEA REEF FISHING*

Climb aboard "Whale Watcher" for a great day out fishing with your mates, and if you’re on your own... with your new mates!!!! "Whale Watcher" is a stable 50 ft cat with new twin 420’s Cummins engines, built for speed and comfort, ensuring a quick and safe ride out to the fish. "Whale Watcher" is the largest fishing vessel on the southern end of the Gold Coast. So you will be fishing in comfort, with plenty of room to walk around on all decks.
They are licensed for 14 fishermen at a time, so you are guaranteed plenty of room to move when you fish. There’s also a very large undercover deck, inside toilet, cabin with lounge area and kitchenette. Some of the fish in the area are, Billfish, Cobia, Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Pearl Perch, Snapper, Mullaway, Parrot Fish, Flathead, Kingfish, Leather Jackets, Mowong and more... The boat works on a shared catch basis. Everyone keeps their special catch and the rest is shared by all on board. Just bring along your sea legs, a hat, sunscreen, and an esky to take all your fish home in!!!

*MARKETS*

There are local farmers markets every second Saturday in the park on the Northern side of Kingscliff Bowls Club. (On the 2nd & 4th Saturday of each month). The Byron Bay Markets are held 1st Sunday of every month. The Bangalow Markets are held on the 4th Sunday of every month.

*KINGSCLIFF BOWLS CLUB*

Kingscliff Bowls Club offers "barefoot bowls and brekkie" - every Sunday Morning for the novice or an ideal way to spend Sunday mornings.

*FINGAL LIGHTHOUSE*

Also of interest is a walk up to Fingal Lighthouse. Park on the road just past the Fingal Trading Post and there is an easy walk along the sand tracks and up to the lighthouse, where Cook Island can be seen off shore. Also see the Giants Causeway caused when molten volcanic rock solidified as it was cooled by the ocean many years ago.

*MT WARNING*

Another pleasant walk (although a much more difficult climb) is the walk up Mt Warning (follow the signs from Murwillumbah). Allow yourself 6 hours for the climb and bring sufficient water and wear suitable walking shoes. The descent track is the same as the ascent track.

*BYRON BAY, CABARITA BEACH, HASTINGS POINT*

The Tweed Townships are worth a look. Cabarita Beach has a lovely headland that you can climb, Hastings Point has a lovely inlet and headland able to be driven on with great views, and Pottsville beach has a nice inlet and river. 30 minutes drive down the coast is Byron Bay which is another day trip worth considering.

  • "The best 5 star accomodation on the east coast. The unit had everything you could want including awesome coffee. Overlooking miles of coastline and we saw heaps of whales passing by at sunset from the balcony. Best ever holiday for us we'll be back. "
    Greg & Wendy , December 2011

  • "Beautiful spot and immaculate, modern apartment. Saw whales breaching from the patio. Enjoyed the spa bath, kids played in the huge common area and swam in the nice pool. Several excellent eating possibilities within walking distance. "
    Anonymous, December 2011

  • "We had a fabulous stay at the apartment over Easter 2011 with our 2 children. They loved the TV in their room (and were excited they could watch TV in bed!). The apartment itself was lovely and very tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. Everything about the apartment oozed charm! We parked our car in the secure basement for 5 days and walked everywhere. The beach was lovely to walk along each morning with the children! We will definately stay here again with our family next year! "

  • "Apartment was lovely, great balcony and view, quality fittings and furnishings, very quiet. Great place for a relaxing holiday"
    Jenny, March 2011

  • "yet another very enjoyable stay with the owner of these two beautiful apartments. we stayed in the two bedroom apt this time and were not disappointed. well fit out with all amenities needed. use of the pool in the complex was relaxing. the beach here is wonderful and the restaurants at the salt complex are always very nice. no need to cook, yet everything is in the apartment if you choose too. the view is nice and we relax so much when we come here. it is important that you take the time when you come into the room to read the beach house folder on the desk, giving you all the run down on the complex, and what is included etc. the owner (and her agent) is very lovely and professional and it shows in the way she presents her properties."
    jodi, March 2011

  • "What a fantastic apartment! Location is amazing within the Peppers Bale resort with beautiful views of the Salt complex and of course the ocean! Spacious, beautifully furnished (great TV's)! Would highly recommend this apartment and we look forward to staying there again. "
    Phil, March 2011

  • "Loved the place. It actually looks how it is promoted on the web - no smoke and mirrors. We were busy, breaky on Patio, with food purchased at cafe / village just 2 mins walk. Out exploring in morning, back in time for laying around the private pool (maybe with the odd beverage!), walk down to the beach, quick dip, circle back up to the pub for quiet cool one, decide on dinner - resturaunt or eat in - sunset from patio, couch potato with big telly and do it all over again the next day!!! PS: we left kids at home - hence it being so quiet! "
    Chris, March 2011

  • "I booked this apartment on the basis of the glowing reviews on this website and we were not disappointed. I don't want to repeat all the accolades (all are true!) but I will add that we loved the pool side dining (which I don't recall being mentioned in the reviews). We tried to book again for a long weekend in January and sadly this apartment was all booked (and now that we've had the great ocean views and easy proximity to the beach I wasn't interested in staying in another unit at the resort :). Will have to plan in advance for this gem!"
    Courtney, February 2011

  • "we had a wonderful holiday in this unit. It was simply fantastic. so close to everything you needed ...we did not have to get in the car once. the unit is open and spacious and very modern. we will definately be back again."
    kirsten, January 2011

  • "We booked 8 nights to celebrate my 40th and it will be a holiday I will not forget. It was absolutely wonderful. The unit was beautiful, the beachfront and hinterland views were stunning. I felt so relaxed the whole time I was there. I would love to stay again in the future!"
