Cubby House is perched high on a ridge with 180 degree ocean views filtered through the tree tops from Separation Creek to Wye River. Watch the ships pass or koalas shimmy from the comfort of a queen bed. This fun little house has no room for unwanted guests - just you and your favourite person. Have brekky on the deck with the king parrots, afternoon tea with the blue wrens, read that book you've been putting off on the private sun-drenched balcony, or just snooze on the love seat in the fresh air.
Nature lovers' paradise
The cubby house is walking distance to the beach and surrounded by forest, with abundant birdlife. King parrots and white cockies are usually the first to welcome you to Wye River. Don't forget to say hi to Eric the Red, he's the quizzical one. Look skywards and you'll surely see koalas and a few more feathered friends, including gang gang cockatoos (creaky door call). Blue wrens and firetail finches twitter across the ground in search of a meal. Among the less frequent visitors are echidnas and wallabies.

The place to be in Wye River is the cubby house. The owner Wade is lovely to deal with and very thoughtful about providing all that you need while on a holiday. The morning sunrise through the trees was magnificent, being the highest place on the hill it truly was a cubby house experience, the birds on the deck were a constant source of entertainment. The Wye beach hotel 1 min up the road was also excellent if you want a good meal.
Thanks for providing us with such a beautiful place to visit. I would highly recommend a stay here.

We spent a fantastic 5 nights at the Cubby House in February 2013 as part of our honeymoon. The property was lovely and cosy - it had everything we needed; the location was also perfect for exploring the Great Ocean Road and surrounding areas. The property felt very private and we had daily visits from the local bird life. Wye River is a great spot between Lorne and the Twelve Apostles.

We loved our stay at the Cubby House, private and tranquil with the ocean visible through the trees from 270 degrees of the property. Really well appointed, from the bbq on the deck to the iPod speakers. Wye River a handy a short drive away (or a walk for those who don't fear big hills on the return journey) to the beach or for sustenance at the General Store. We also greeted one of the local koalas one morning in the back yard. A fabulous escape from the city all around.

Although the weather wasn't the best, we were able to make the most of the comfy love seat and big screen tv, cooked breakfast on the BBQ, fed the birds, went for lunch in Lorne, visited the Koalas at Kennet River and generally got some much needed relaxation done. BBQing on the deck with a beer surrounded by gum trees, cockies, roseallas, magpies, kookaburras and koalas over looking the beach doesn't get much more Australian than that!

We had a fantastic time at Cubby House!
From arrival we were greeted by gorgeous vistas and an amazingly designed house. No expense spared inside, well applianced and an inviting atmosphere.
We fed King Parrots, Sulphur Crested cockatoos and Crimson Rosellas from our own back deck! And when night fell we relaxed under the stars listening to the waves come in.
Upstairs was a simplistic, crisp layout with windows on all sides and the illusion of really being in the treehouse was driven home when we realised our 'neighbours' were two beautiful local koalas : )
Lauren and I can't say enough nice things about it's locale, layout and even the friendly people in town.
The coast doesn't get much better than Wye River.

The local General Store had great food and fresh bread and a great cafe/restaurant, which made it incredibly worthwhile wandering down the hill. The house was immaculate, with everything you could need (especially birdfeed) and the location was perfect -away from any busy roads with an amazing view. Amazing and unique accommodation in a perfect aussie setting, surrounded by gum trees (and heaps of koalas!) with ocean views and a cool breeze. This place oozes relaxation! Comfortable chairs for reading, a great bed, BBQ on the deck and scrabble (for a rainy afternoon). Great Ocean Rd sights and bushwalks all close by. Would definately return (for longer).

It really is a cubby house for Grownups! The ideal place to bunker down for some R&R with your loved one. Elegant design and yet extremely user-friendly. The window daybed is an ideal place to start and finish your novel. And you can't beat the balcony for feeding the local birds whilst enjoying a glass of wine. We had 27 cockatoos at one point sitting on the railing! A must visit.

A brilliant place to get away to for the weekend. The house was perfect for two and had everything we needed. A great mix of beach house with a touch of funk. It was beautiful waking up among the trees, with koalas and parrots around you.

The cubby house was well suited to our needs and everything we could possibly need was provided at hand. The space felt so clean, new and uncluttered. My partner and I had an incredibly relaxing time and enjoyed interacting with the birds and wildlife literally at the doorstep. Being within walking distance to the beach, pub and general store at Wye River was a bonus, it is such a beautiful and peaceful section of the Great Ocean Road. We would definitely recommend the cubby house as a comfortable and relaxing retreat.
