Description
Recently restored, this two bedroom former 'fisherman's' cottage is situated in the most attractive, leafy corner of South Fremantle, opposite a small park.
The main bedroom has a very comfortable queen-sized bed, a ceiling fan and a reverse cycle air conditioner. The former front bedroom has been converted into a stylish sitting room with 'Victorian' gas fire, library, TV and DVD facilities. However, we sometimes make up an extra single bed in here for an extra adult or child.
The kitchen is a good size, well equipped with modern facilities and still has the original wood stove to show the passing of time.
An 1980s extension with high ceilings adds unique character to this very special 1890s worker's cottage. The bathroom leads off to the right of this space, as do the laundry facilities. The back sitting/dining room has a beautiful bay window and French doors which open onto a private 'Mediterranean' courtyard garden. This makes a delightful breakfast, lunch or barbeque spot.
On arrival we give you a complementary bottle of Western Australian wine and leave a delicious breakfast hamper for your first morning.
The Cottage is well equipped, beautifully furnished and has best quality, crisp, white linen. It is easy to care for, and would suit those either on holiday wanting a romantic getaway, or provide a comfortable retreat for those on business.
The deciduous trees allow plenty of shade in summer and light in winter. Although shaded and cool in summer, the cottage is very cosy in the cooler months and is heated by a gas pot belly in the back sitting/dining room and an open gas 'Victorian' fireplace in the front TV/ sitting room.

Prized location
Situated in a quiet location, opposite a small park - just across the road from Fishing Boat Harbour, we are in a great spot. The park opens onto Marine Terrace and is 200 metres from the South Fremantle Sailing Club and a short stroll from South Beach. In the opposite direction, we are only a short walk from Little Creatures and a selection of harbour restaurants. Notre Dame University, the hospital, Fremantle Markets, the Round House and the centre of Fremantle are just a short stroll from here. For those who need to take the bus, the free CAT bus service runs past the end of the road.
South Fremantle's culinary hub is just at the end of our little street. A great selection of restaurants, cafes and specialty shops add to the character of this sought-after area. These include the Ootong and Lincoln cafe, a German gourmet bakery, a small Italian supermarket, a beauty studio, yoga centre, several gift shops and galleries.....and more.
From here, it is easy to enjoy the beach and a range of water sports, take the ferry to Rottnest Island, sail up the Swan River - explore Fremantle's historic sites, the new Maritime Museum and the many contemporary art galleries.
Catch the CAT to Fremantle Arts Centre, have lunch on the lawns, see an exhibition and listen to court yard music or visit other heritage sites such as Fremantle Prison and the famous Fremantle Markets. The main line station is only a short walk away (for those wishing to travel to Perth).....
...or, simply stay at 'home', enjoy the space, and listen to music, watch a DVD, or find an interesting read from our wide selection of books - and relax.
Just a couple of reviews from our Flipkey page that we were more than happy with!!
"Business Traveller Tired of Hotels, from Noosa", November 2012.
"Rather than stay in the 'usual' Fremantle hotel, we opted for Coral Cottage this time. Our 6 day experience was as follows: At 5am we started the day with a sunrise jog along the beachside part followed by a swim with the local early risers at South Beach. We returned to the Cottage and delved into the basket of goodies, provided by Judy and Hugh....honey roasted almond muesli, local organic yoghurt and milk, WA roasted biodynamic coffee beans, seeded sourdough from the bakery across the street, fresh eggs, tomatoes, mangoes,....the list goes on.
Off to work by 7.30, the Cottage was an easy walk to Fremantle train station. Returning home in the evening, we were able to pause and appreciate the private, sunny, limestone encrusted courtyard, bottle of cold, crisp white wine and macadamias (also part of the hamper provided by Hugh and Judy).
South Fremantle beats Fremantle hands down when it comes to dining venues, lacking pretensions and devoid of 'bling'. Just great food.!
Shower and don a fluffy bathrobe in the evening.....settle down in the cosy living room...and discover more goodies....prise winning books that could keep you reading for a year, local chocolate, an exhaustive selection of CDs.
I am hesitant to write such a positive review because I work in Fremantle and Perth frequently and I fear that the Cottage will become so popular that I will not be able to get a booking! However, this property is so outstanding and the owners so engaging that I am compelled to speak.
A truly memorable experience for all the right reasons". November 2012

"Coral Cottage was the perfect place for myself and my beautiful wife to have the most romantic time and will always be an important place for us in both our lives and our hearts. Thanks Judy and Hugh for a setting for memories that are with us forever". Warren and Marie. Perth, April, 2013.
