Description

The Old School was built in 1876 and used as a school until 1974. One can still find ink on the floorboards of the schoolroom, but the room has lost the schoolhouse chill. The School has been extended and renovated and now resembles a rambling country house, where guests relax on down sofas and are warmed by generous fires. The School is rustic, interesting and delightful. Surrounded by three and a half acres of gardens adjacent to native bushland, courtyards, ponds and sunny areas, it creates an atmosphere that encourages relaxation.

The School is available on a self-contained basis; breakfast is included. The Old School has five bedrooms in two wings of the house, three small sitting rooms and one large main sitting room, a dining room and four bathrooms.
Bed and breakfast is also available.

The Old School won an Award of Distinction for Hosted Accommodation in the Capital Country Awards for Excellence in Tourism.

Rates vary depending on the number of people staying.
Self contained accommodation for two is $400 per night at the weekend.
Self contained accommodation for ten is $700 per night at the weekend.
Self contained accommodation for ten is $2000 per week.
Basket breakfast is included.

Bed and breakfast is $190 per night.

DIRECTIONS

To find Rye Park, travel along the Hume Freeway until just south of the second Yass turnoff; you will see a sign to Boorowa. Turn there and follow this road all the way to Boorowa, do not turn right where the sign points to Rye Park. The War Memorial in Boorowa will be in front of you when you drive down the main street when entering Boorowa. Turn right at the War Memorial and follow this road for twenty kilometers until you reach Rye Park. The School is immediately in front of you when you reach the town. There is a small sign. Approximately forty minutes from the freeway.

Alternately, travel into Yass and on the south side of town, past the RTA, there is a sign to Rye Park. Turn there and follow the signs. Approximately thirty-five minutes from Yass.

If you enjoy country roads, and chances are you do if you are heading for the bush for a few days; there is a more direct route if you are coming from the north, through Gunning and Dalton. It will take about forty-five minutes from the freeway turnoff at Gunning.
