San Carlo is located in North Hobart, a very vibrant lively area, the dining out strip of Hobart featuring restaurants, cafes and pubs often with live entertainment. There are also various boutiques, a supermarket, newsagency, chemists and banks nearby.
San Carlo is about 20-25 minutes walk from the centre of the city and another 7-8 minutes from there to the waterfront, but if you prefer there is a bus service that passes the door very frequently. The walk is well worth doing because it is along Elizabeth Street which is the main shopping street of the city. It leads into the City Mall and then continues down to the waterfront with its seafood restaurants and so on.
The main North/South road, the Brooker Highway, is about 400 metres away, so it is easy to get anywhere you may like to go - Port Arthur, Tahune airwalk etc.
Just over the road is the State Picture Theatre that is one of our local treasures – it shows lots of movies that don’t make the big movie circuit, but also runs many of those movies after they have left the big cinema complexes. Its front foyer is a coffee shop/wine bar so a visit to the movies is a very pleasant evening out.
On the other side of the North Hobart shopping centre is a park with a children’s playground. Five minutes drive away is the Hobart Aquatic centre that children would enjoy. Five minutes in the other direction is Cornelian Bay, a small shallow bay that many families use. A better beach, Nutgrove, is past the city centre along Sandy Bay Road past the Casino. It is just ten minutes drive from North Hobart.
