Description

There is nothing quite like Tinpot. For those of you who want something a little different and very special, this is for you. A perfect place for a little bit of a bush adventure miles away from city life. Only for people who dont mind getting their hands a little dirty (but can then wash them off in the pristine waters of the Tuross river).

Tinpot is 45 minutes from any town, right in the middle of State Forest and adjoining a National Park. 40 acres of total seclusion and beautiful bush. No traffic noise, no planes, just the birds and the river.

The Accomodation

The house is an open plan stone and timber cottage, built by a craftman with great care and love. It has a queen bed surrounded by windows looking out over the valley. There is also a single bed and a fold out sofa bed. Most people bring tents and either set them up in the huge open shed or on one of the flat camping sites. There are mattresses which can be used in the tents for extra comfort. Tinpot has accomodated over 10 people at a time, but around 2-8 is ideal.

Also inside the cottage is a kitchen with a gas fridge and cooktop, plus and antique working woodfire stove. These are all run on gas bottles, so you are required to bring around 3x Swap and Go bottles for a weeks stay. The kitchen uses water pumped up from the beautiful Tuross River, which is perfect to drink, but you may wish to bring bottled water.

The is a gorgeous extremely efficient open fire in the lounge and a dining table that seats 6.

The cottage is surrounded on three sides by a beautiful stone covered verandah with the 4th side opening out onto a huge stone deck with a huge rustic wooden table seating up to 12 and a fire pit for outdoor cooking and marshmallow toasting.

A one minute walk down the hill from the house brings you to the stunning Tuross River. With the biggest beachfront on the river Tinpot is perfect for long days swimming and canoeing.
When the water is high enough there is even rapids perfect for boggie boarding, with boards provided of course.

There is a bathroom in the shed, with a flushing toilet and cold shower, plus a bush shower for hot showers and the real camping experience.

There is also an outdoor bath and and an extra flushing dunny overlooking the bush

For the kids there is a grind rail and 1/4 pipe for skating or blading, a full size trampoline, a dart board, a badminton set and much more, plus a large range of board games and cards etc. There is also a solar CD player and a solar light in the kitchen. apart from that there is no electricity, so it candles and lamps for light, which creates such a special atmosphere and a holiday you will definately remember.

The area is surrounded by wildlife including Wombats, Black Cockatoos, Eagles, Goannas, Possums and Wallabies. We can almost promise you will get a visit from the resident Possums and Goanna.

Where it is.

Tinpot is 5 hrs from Sydney and around 2 1/2 from Canberra. Tinpot is around 45 minutes through the bush from either Bodalla, Narooma, Tilba or Cobargo. Much of the road is unsealed and some small parts of it can be quite rough especially after rain, so though a 4WD is not essential it is recommended.

Most peole come to Tinpot and don't leave till home time, but if you require other activities, Tinpot is driving distance from many south coast attractions including the gorgeous Heritage towns of Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba. Central Tilba with its famous pub and lolly shop aswell and the Tilba cheese factory, and Tilba Tilba with its stunning and award winning display gardens. There is also the beaches of Mystery Bay and Narooma, and the lovely little country town of Cobargo.

Anyone wishing to come and visit Tinpot must be comfortable with the outdoors and proficient at using gas bottles etc.

Guest Reviews

  • "Fantastic spot, the cottage is just so cute and the surrounds so peaceful. The remoteness of the property made it difficult to find even with the directions. More signage would be good."

  • "What an experience. Just the right place to kick back and do nothing and let nothing worry you. Camping with a difference. Kids loved playing on the "swings", swimming and canoeing, toasting marshmallows and talking and playing games in the candlelight at night. Fantastic."

  • "I would describe Tinpot as a place you go to unwind. We booked for 7 nights and extended our stay by an extra night. Would have stayed longer but other committments would not allow. We didn't find the lack of electricity an inconvenience but rather a good excuse to leave the ipods, gameboys, nintendos, hairdryers, etc at home. The river is excellant for swimming and canoeing for children of all ages, and the rope swings (2) entertaining for people who are game. The children and dog had a great time chasing the numerous lizards found in the garden. This is not 5 star accomodation if that's what you like. This is a place where you can enjoy the quite, have fun with the kids, read a book and forget about the rat race. I have rated this a five (loved it)but we a campers who like getting away from everyone, so it was like 5 star camping."
