"Bumble Hill Retreat" provides self-catered accommodation on a 26 acre bushland property located on the mountain ridge of Kulnura, inland from the Central Coast and only one hour's drive North of Sydney.
The homestead is situated in a Northerly aspect amongst giant gum trees, perched on the edge of an escarpment that overlooks a green river valley, the undulating mountains beyond and the Pacific ocean in the East. It is a spectacular and unique location ideal for tranquillity, meditation, healing, creativity and an appreciation of nature.
We cannot cater for high energy party-style celebrations, children or teenagers due to unfenced dams, cliffs and previous damage that created new insurance demands. This is, generally, a retreat for adults over 25 yrs.
The Retreat consists of a main residence and adjoining studio. Due to the convenience of separate living areas, Bumble would ideally suit a mature family, several couples/friends requiring a peaceful break from their busy city lives, or overseas visitors keen to experience the Australian Hinterland in a natural setting. It is also perfect for a couple who want a romantic weekend away in a private, special place, or any nature-loving adults who just want to relax.
House: 3 bedrooms with 3 x Queen beds and 1 bedroom with 2 single beds.
Studio: 1 bedroom with King bed. An additional Queen bed can be set up in the studio if desired.
The Main home area has a master bedroom (queen bed) with ensuite. There is a bedroom next to it with two single beds and at the other end of the house are two other bedrooms (queen beds) with a double dividing door that can be closed for privacy or left open for family interaction.
In the main home area the full bathroom features a deep colonial bath, shower cubicle and quality fittings. The fully equipped kitchen has Smeg gas appliances and is great for cooking up a feast. It adjoins a large open plan entertainment area where guests can gather around an ironbark dining table which seats up to eight people. A plasma TV and replay facilities provide after dinner entertainment and, in winter, you can be comforted by the hardwood-burning combustion stove. There is a small library/study full of interesting books next to the main expansive deck, ideal for entertaining and enjoying the expansive view.
The Studio is an additional living area adjacent to the main house. It has cathedral ceilings and expansive glass doorways opening out onto a charming courtyard. There is another combustion stove for warmth plus LCD replay and a high quality stereo sytem supported by an extensive range of quality videos/DVDs for free viewing. In summer there is venting and extensive insulation. If you'd prefer to enjoy artistic pursuits there is pottery & painting equipment at a nominal extra charge. The kitchenette has a fridge and microwave. The adjoining master bedroom, with king bed and ensuite, has a small study and private balcony.
Underneath the main residence is a modern laundry with washing machine and rotary clothesline. The courtyard has a pergola which, in summer, is draped with ornamental grape and wisteria. This shades a cobbled barbeque area with a stainless steel BBQ plate heated by burning hardwood. There is also a small portable gas barbeque which can be used on the balcony if it rains.
Bumble has been the home of the famous and infamous; part of its rich and colourful history is recorded in the kept-onsite book "Hellbent" and the ABC documentary “Rebels with a Cause” which can provide entertaining reading/watching during your stay. The original owner of the property was the internationally famous Australian artist Rah Fizelle who, no doubt, gained inspiration from the experience of living on the mountain edge overlooking a vast and beautiful panorama while surrounded by many species of native flora and fauna.
Energetic guests can play table tennis, go bike riding (two bikes and helmets provided) along quiet country roads or take the Great North Walk through timbered bush then lush rainforest as you descend into the valley. There is also a variety of board games for all ages. Five minutes away are tennis courts for hire, or take a sky ride at the local gliding club on weekends - weather permitting.
Within 50 minutes driving east are the beautiful beaches of the Central Coast as seen in the distance from the deck. Heading north for 90 minutes takes you to the vineyards of the Hunter Valley. 30 minutes away is the huge Tuggerah Westfield shopping mall with cinemas, bistros & restaurants. Twenty minutes south is Glenmore Valley with horse riding, bushwalking, kayaking and/or quad biking. The Mangrove Mountain golf course and RSL are ten minutes away, as well as the Noonaweena conference/wedding centre for formal events. Within five minutes on the mountain top is the local Kulnura General Store with bottle shop and woodfire pizzas plus internet/computer facilities. Further along the country road is Jerry's Gourmet Kitchen Cafe for excellent hot snacks and coffee. If you drive down Bumble Hill Road into the valley there is another local store and the popular Yarramalong Manor House that serves homestyle roast meals and devonshire teas. Along the valley is Cedar Park Lavender Farm and the Yarramalong Macadamia Nut farm/cafe, and historic buildings dating back 150 years. You can ride horses at Springfield Trails. There are beautiful scenic drives in all directions, as well as the continuation of the Great North Walk which bounds our property.
Breakfast cereals, milk, tea and coffee are provided. If you require the makings of a full breakfast on the first morning, ie eggs, bacon, toast, butter, jams etc, we are happy to provide for a nominal cost of $15 extra after warning the management.
