The house is a three storey terrace located on a quiet tree lined street on the side of a valley in the popular suburb of Bondi Beach, about ten minutes walk from the beach and the many cafes and shops that give Bondi its character.
The house is one of a pair of ninety year old terraces and was completely renovated by the interior designer owner in 2001 to capture the maximum amount of light and charm. You enter down the stairs from the street into the main living level with sitting room, dining room, stainless steel kitchen, large sunny lounge room and deck running in an open plan layout from front to back.
Upstairs is the enormous master bedroom with its own ensuite and a second family bathroom serving the second and third bedrooms which are separated from the main bedroom by a landing. The master bedroom with a queen size bed and mirrored wardrobes feels a bit like a tree house as it looks out over the garden through the branches of a large Camphor Laurel tree. The second bedroom with a double bed has its own verandah overlooking the street while the third bedroom with two single beds offers access to the attic via a drop down ladder.
Down a narrow staircase from the main living level is the ground floor containing another bathroom, a large office, another deck and the small back yard with an outdoor shower and basketball ring. The office doubles as a fourth bedroom, with a fold out double sofa bed.
The house is modern and comfortable with abundant character courtesy of its unusual renovation, eclectic furniture and an interesting array of items picked up by the owners on their travels. There is a wide screen digital TV with DVD/CD player, a log fireplace for the winter and a choice of areas to sit and chat or lie around and read. A well equipped bookcase separates the sitting room from the entry passage. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, large refrigerator and gas range with electric oven.
"Bondi" is said to be an Aboriginal word meaning "water breaking over rocks". Bondi Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world and is visited by over two and half million people a year. It’s one kilometre stretch of sand can be covered by up to 40,000 people at one time. Bondi Beach is unique. It has a life and personality that reflects its diverse population. From local surfers, to young people who live in Bondi, to backpackers from all over the world who dominate the scene, to multi-cultural communities, Bondi has it all. In summer, the beach becomes the playground for families. Bondi offers beautiful coastal walks, white sand, crashing surf, and lazy days. Great strip shopping lines all the small back streets where the locals like to hang out and drink coffee.
