BENEFITS FOR FAMILIES
The island offers many wholesome family activities without spending lots of money and all only 200 metres from Ascot Cottage.

2. Playground, Stinger Net and Family Restaurants. Picnic Bay has it all, the infrastructure that came with once being the ferry terminal! A mall and childrens playground are within a safe beach side mall environment. Adjacent to the Jetty is the Picnic Bay surf life saving club and during summer, a safe swimming area is provided with a stinger net.
3. Walking Tracks and Nature are very prolific in Picnic Bay. Picnic Bay has an amazing abundance of bird life from Ospreys and Hawks to the friendly and very approachable Lorikeets and the shy and statuesque Curlews. Koalas are in their element on Maggie Island and there are over 28km of well kept walking tracks throughout the 80% of the island which remains national park.

  • "I was over from New Zealand to spend some time with sister and my niece had arranged this time for us, as a birthday surprise for her Mum. From the moment I saw the cottage I was delighted and it just kept getting better! Everything about it is enchanting, the style of the cottage, the way you have presented it, everything that we both love. It was a joy to stay there and very hard to leave. I want to compliment you on the cottage itself of course, but also the presentation, the decoration is perfect and the surrounding garden. You appear to have thought of everything to make a stay there totally enjoyable and it was very easy for those few days, to imagine that it was my forever home. It was wonderful being able to spend those few days with Trish, in such a perfect spot. I just wish it had been three weeks! I know Trish loved it too and it was great seeing her unwind there and relax. I do hope to be able to enjoy it again in the not too distant future. Thank-you so much for sharing this enchanted cottage with others. "

  • "It is great to arrive to a destination and not be let down by the accommodation- we were not! Your cottage is sound, charming, comfortable and a credit to its owners. After a string of motels it is a delight to find quality furniture and decor. We met the possum, re-discovered beach walking and were fascinated by the Curlews. Thanks again."

  • "We loved Ascot Cottage and will look back on our stay with fondness. The resident possum was a great surprise, the birdlife was delightful and the gardens offered a lovely piece of paradise for meals and lazy reading. Everything seemed to have been thought of and provided. We could easily walk a short distance to find something wonderful to entertain us- be it the scenery, a good coffee or a piece of local history. The bus stop was easy to get to and a day pass allowed us free movement at a bargain price! We had some wonderful walks- the Forts Walk was a highlight- unmatchable views and koalas! Hard to beat. We will be back :) Thanks Sue and Geoff for making our holiday a delight! "

  • "Magnetic Island Magic... From the moment we came inside the cottage we were delighted by the warmth and cosy atmosphere. The cottage is lovely and felt like our Home away from home. One of our highlights included a special visit from a mother possum and her baby. We observed the cottage rules and watched from afar. It was such a nice experience being so close to nature. Magnetic Island boasts so much beauty. Im only regretful we could not have indulged in the sights for longer. Radical Bay was a favourite spot for us on our stay. It was a feast for the eyes. We will certainly be telling our friends about this lovely cottage on the beautiful island. "

  • "We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your delightful cottage and were most impressed by your well equipped kitchen. We traversed most of the walking tracks on the island and as a 70 year old, I was pleased with that. We have had fun imagining the original floor plan of the house but feel you have kept its character intact. We loved the privacy and tropical feel of the barbeque area. "

  • "A quiet place a chance to launch forth (to all manner of wonderful island experiences) and a chance to withdraw (and reflect). The perfect retreat within the perfect discovery and context. Thanks for the charming touches and the budget conscious pricing. Definitely a tucked away treasure."

  • "What a hidden treasure. After surfing the net one is always dubious about places no one knows anything about. But alas we will be sharing this secret cottage with all our friends and family. As previously stated we could live here easily. Thank you for the wonderful rest and rejuvenation. "

  • "What a lovely cottage! Lovingly restored with a beautiful garden. Quiet area of the island where the only noise is the birds. Our door eating area is large and private except for the possum family that comes to visit. We even had a koala living in the tree in the front yard! Indoors, the cabin is well appointed with a large kitchen and sitting area and comfortable bedrooms. I love how the "feel" of the older cottage is blended with modern conveniences! Truly a lovely place to stay and unwind . . . . but don't miss exploring the islands and snorkelling some of the lesser known beaches. Also, the Fort Walk is well worth it in the late afternoon when the koalas are starting to wake up."

  • ""We all thoroughly fell in love with your beautiful Ascot Cottage, everything was just so comfortable and my hubby especially loved the stainless steel bench. We felt like it was our very own home and took the same pride in the cottage as we do in our own home. James my youngest absolutely loved all the resident animal life, especially the possums. We searched high and low in every gift shop on the island looking for a possum like the one on the cabinet in the cottage as James was desperate to find one. The weather was really lovely, with the heat coming in only in the last few days which reminded us what is to yet to come. The kids loved fishing off the jetty at Picnic Bay most of all. We also did the walk to the Forts which was really good, but next time I dont think we will do it in the middle of the day! Look forward to staying in the sweetest cottage on Magnetic Island again soon". Ann, Jimmy, Jayden and James Reid, September 2009 "

  • "Seldom does reality outshine photos but on entering Ascot Cottage this was the case. Loved the kitchen. Finally got to work on a stainless steel benchtop and loved it. BBQ area was delightful and we spent most of our time there. Whoever was responsible for the little touches turns Ascot Cottage into more than just a rental home. Thought it was brilliant. Had a lovely holiday. Enjoyed your little piece of peace. "
