Description

"Fairfield" is a working farm set on the outskirts of the world renown Gundaroo village. The house itself is large and open and set in five acres of garden. Wake to the sounds of cows and sheep in nearby fields and the many varieties of birds that come into the garden to drink from the pond or to find worms in the lawn or seeds and nectar from the trees and shrubs. You may wish to sit in the large lounge and view the activities from the window or under the grapevine on the verandah looking into the valley to the village beyond. Explore the local village from the pushbikes provided a short 3km flat ride with the choice of a 3 hat restaurant (Grazing), Award winning Gourmet Pizza Restarant and the Pub. Due to unfenced farm dams Fairfield is not suitable for young children.

Plenty to do after breakfast.

As "Fairfield" is a working farm. The house is divided totally around 180 square meters you have unfetted acess to. You may wish to wander up to the shearing shed and cattle yards although these are not in use all year round due to the variety of farming tasks and timing of the work. Push bikes are provided for the energetic and a ride to the village is achievable for most 3.2 kms away flat ride. Visit the churches and "lockup" dating back to the 1850's. Later in the evening go to a real "country pub" for a drink, meal and a chat with the locals - good food and good company. You are left to a self serve breakfast in the large and well stocked kitchen. Make yourself at home and enjoy the serenity. BBQ facilities are also available. Breakfast is continental.

Wine Country

This is the centre of wine country. Not your thick syrupy Shiraz's but light altitude inspired whites, award winning Helm and Lark Hill reisling and complex merlots from small boutique wineries. These wines are from stressed calcium and phosphous deficent soils grown in the cold where flavours are enhanced, indivudual and subtle. The closest winerie is only a few kilometers away. One of our favourites is "Poachers Pantry" a smoke house for game meats and the home of Wily Trout Winery.
