Description

This cosy traditional Tasmanian coastal holiday house is the highest house on the south side of the river.

The northerly outlook gives not only a magnificent, elevated view, but also plenty of warm sun, to be enjoyed inside or on the large raised deck, looking out over the river, sea and surrounding wild Arthur- Pieman Conservation Area. This is truly a panorama. The cottage is set back from the road, in its own garden.

The spacious main room, a recent addition, looks out over the view, from east through north and to west over the sea. This room has dining and living areas and a well-equipped kitchen. The main room adjoins a second living area which has a slow -combustion wood stove, for which wood is supplied. There is also a thermostatically controlled electric forced air heater in the main room.

There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and one with 2 bunks and a single bed. Part of the second living area, which has a double sofa bed, can be curtained off as another sleeping area. The WC, fully equipped laundry and bathroom are all separate. The bathroom has a shower/bath.

There is also a fully enclosed, lockable garage and a large enclosed patio/sunroom with a transparent roof with table , chairs and a gas barbecue.

Locality

The Arthur River village is the only easily accessed settlement that faces the Southern Ocean on the Tasmanian West Coast. It straddles the mouth of the wild and undammed Arthur River, which traverses the Tarkine Forest.

The village is surrounded by the extensive Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, which abounds with wildlife. The animals treat the village as part of their home. Wombats have burrows in many places within the village and, along with wallabies, are seen frequently. Spotted quolls and Tasmanian devils live within or walk through the village and are most likely tp be seen at night. The property across the river, just beyond the village, is famed for viewing devils in the wild. Contact Geoff King , or . Book well in advance for a special experience.

The Arthur River area is a little known, but great destination for fishermen, with trout in the River and good rock and beach fishing.

The coast just north of Arthur River is famed for its surf, so that each year there are major national surf and wave-sailing events.

The wild coast of sweeping beaches, rocky outcrops and coves on either side of the Arthur River mouth is easily reached on foot from the village and also can be reached at multiple points by road, further afield from the village.

Roads connect the village to the Tarkine forest inland, which can also be visited by taking your own boat 15km up the River. Boats and canoes are available for hire in the village or, alternatively, you can catch an Arthur River Cruise on the George Robinson, which runs up the River virtually every day, apart from mid-winter. This characterful boat leaves just across the river from the Cottage. Book early on .

There are many other attractions within a 100km radius, including pretty, historic Stanley and the huge dairy and wind farm at Woolnorth, right on the top left corner of Tasmania.

The recently upgraded main road that enters Arthur River from the north is well-engineered and is sealed. The scenic Western Explorer road continues south from Arthur River to Corinna, from where it is easy to reach Strahan and all of Southern Tasmania, so that it is possible to do a loop around much of the Tasmanian coast. The Western Explorer is mainly dirt, but is well-maintained and suitable for an ordinary 2 wheel drive car, driven carefully.
