Tara Cottage is nestled on a magnificent 100 acre working olive grove "River Flats Estate" . Tara offers the perfect blend of modern accommodation with the charm of a country retreat . Tara sleeps up to 8 people with its 2 queens size bedrooms and a twin single bedroom plus a sofa bed in the lounge area.
Packages Available (mix and match packages to suit your interests): Horse riding, trail ride lunches, wine tours, wine appreciation events, wine appreciation dinners, special dinners, pick up and return taxi service to restaurants or events, hot rock therapy and facial massage and reflexology by qualified staff from Yellow Rock Therapies, bush walking.
We have another property on the estate which is a three minute stroll through the olive grove called Carynia Homestead which also sleeps 8 people. So if you have a large party of up to 16 people we have the perfect solution for you.
Both Cottages are situated on a working olive grove with over 3500 olive trees. If you take both cottages then we have a large floodlight undercover central area on the property with BBQ and tables and chairs so all your family and friends can sit under the stars and enjoy a touch of Tuscany in the Hunter Valley.
With a slow combustion fire, R/C air-conditioning, BBQ area and large open and enclosed deck areas and a modern and fully equipped kitchen, every detail has been taken care of so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your stay.
The rates include exclusive use of Tara Cottage and facilities as well as bed linen, towels, crockery and utensils. We also provide all you would need for a hearty country breakfast including bacon, fresh farm eggs, bread, orange juice, tea and coffee are also provided along with all condiments.
We also throw in a wonderful bottle of our own River Flats Olive Oil with our comlpliments
The village of Broke stands at the base of the Brokenback and Hunter Ranges on the Wollombi Brook.
Importantly, Broke Fordwich retains its integrity as a rural community remaining free of large scale development yet offering first class B&B and self catering accommodation, restaurants and activities.
Visitors to the area are surprised by the amount of wildlife they see. It's rare to visit the area without seeing kangaroos, wombats and a huge range of birds.
Taste the delicious treats for the gourmet and innovative cook. River Flats Estate and our retail outlet Pickled and Pitted have a superb range of olives, oils, cheeses, preserves and other specialty items all prepared locally and with seasonal produce

But there is more to do in the Hunter than wine tasting, we have fantastic restaurants, you can play Golf, spend a day at a health spa, visit a chocolate or cheese factory. We can also arrange wine tours.
Travelling From Sydney Via Wollombi - Very Scenic
Join the F3 freeway at Wahroonga but take the exit for Peats Ridge (route 33 next exit after Mt White). Follow the signs for Wollombi. Travel along the old Pacific Highway for approx 15 kilometres and then turn left to Wollombi and Singleton. The road follows the Old Convict Trail from Bucketty and winds through the valley, past Murrays Run and Laguna before arriving at Wollombi. Continue straight ahead at the Wollombi Tavern - there is a short section of dirt road just outside Wollombi but improves shortly afterwards. Once you reach Paynes Crossing Bridge, continue along the Wollombi road for a further 12 Kms and you will see River Flats Estate Olive Grove on the left hand side. First Gate is Carynia and the second gate is Tara
Travelling From Sydney Via F3 Freeway
Join the F3 Freeway at Wahroonga and take the Vineyards/Cessnock exit. Follow the signs to Cessnock along Route 82. At the end of Cessnock main street follow Vineyard signs along Allandale Road towards Branxton. After 7 kilometres turn left into Broke Road. 3.7 kilometres along Broke Road turn left into McDonalds Road and then immediately right to stay on Broke Road. Follow Broke Road past Harrigan's Irish Pub, Tyrrell's Vineyard and Mallees Restaurant to Hermitage Road, continue straight for 15 kilometres until you reach the end of Broke Road. You are now in Broke. Turn left and travel 5 klms and you will see River Flats Estate on your right hand side. First Gate is Tara and the second gate is Carynia.
Travelling From Western Sydney, Via Putty Road
Follow the Putty Road to Milbrodale then turn right onto Milbrodale Road towards Broke. Travel approximately 13kms along Milbrodale Road until you reach Broke at the end of Milbrodale Road. Turn Right and continue 6klm on the Wollombi Road and you will see River Flats Estate on your right hand side. First Gate is Tara and the second gate is Carynia
Travelling From Newcastle or North Coast
From Newcastle or the North Coast, take your preferred route to Cessnock, then follow the above directions
Travelling From New England Highway
From the New England Highway, turn off at Singleton and follow the main street (John St) south. Watch for the left turn to Broke and Wollombi about five minutes south of Singleton. Once you reach the village of Broke travel 5 klms and you will see River Flats Estate on your right hand side. First Gate is Tara and the second gate is Carynia.
