A Down to Earth Outback Experience –
As seen on Getaway, Great Outdoors & Sydney Weekender..
PJs Underground is a unique Bed & Breakfast located underground in the pioneering township of White Cliffs. White Cliffs was the first commercial opal field of Australia, and hot summer temperatures found opal miners living in the cool, constant 22-degree temperature of their mines after a hard days work!
PJs Underground offers NRMAêêê Bed & Breakfast accommodation for up to seventeen visitors in five guest rooms nestled under the 64 million year old roof of attractively renovated old mines in historic Turleys Hill.
PJs Underground was proud to be a finalist in the 1997 & 1999 Tourism Awards for Excellence.
Peter & Joanne Pedler enjoy visitors sharing their unique home & lifestyle, and invite guests to join them for dinner and an evenings relaxation in their comfortable guest lounge. Many guests find themselves curled up, with a good book from PJs extensive library, in an outdoor oasis (a stark contrast to the surrounding countryside where the kangaroos & emus move through the saltbush and bare gibber plains stretching to the horizon). A relaxing afternoon can be spent fossicking for a piece of elusive opal on the old mining field - White Cliffs Miners welcome a friendly tourist face, and are often more than willing to stop for a chat.
For those seeking cut opal, PJs Underground sells a range of polished stones and set jewellery, as well as local arts & crafts.
A long day on the Tourist trail visiting the Solar Power Station, Opal showrooms and Art galleries can be reflected upon with a soak in the spa also located underground in a century old open cut mine.
PJs Underground welcomes visitors to enjoy the peace & tranquility of the bush, experience the wonder of living Underground and feel a little of the Pioneering Spirit of the Living Outback.
255km north - east of Broken Hill, White Cliffs is 93 km north of Wilcannia on a mainly sealed Rd ( only 12 km left to seal).
