Description

Nestled between Laguna and Wollombi (both 10 minutes away) and 2 hours away from Sydney, the House at Pemmenunna is your escape from it all. Set on a ridge with views overlooking the Watagan Creek and Milsons Arm valleys, the house is solar powered (generator backup) with gas stove and refrigerator, slow combustion oven for chilly nights, luxury linens and towels. Fully equipped kitchen to cook your favourite roasts, Weber BBQ for summer nights, and breakfast on the verandah shaded from the sun overhead. There is a stereo to plug in your iPod, listen to CDs, a wide variety of books, magazines and games to while away the day and night, and 91 acres for bushwalking.

No pets please. There is a wide variety of animal life around including kangaroos, wombats, goannas, and many types of birds who like to visit the dam for a drink.

There is 6kms of dirt road to the house. The track to the house is regularly graded and and is passable by car. However, unless you are have experience driving on a dirt road, we recommend a AWD or 4WD vehicle.

House Information, Rates, and Things to Do

The house sleeps a maximum of 6 adults. We can also provide a baby cot and you're welcome to bring your own. Both the master and second bedrooms have queen size beds. The living room has a very comfortable pull out double sofa bed with a real mattress. The master bedroom has views overlooking the valley while the second bedroom looks out to the dam and forest. The entire house has beautiful wood flooring.

There is a full terracotta tiled bathroom with separate shower, toilet, bathtub, chandelier and cathedral windows. For your comfort, there is also a separate toilet in the laundry/utility room. We provide all bedding and towels.

There is no television or DVD player. Instead, we have a large selection of games, books, and magazines for your enjoyment!

If you feel like exploring the area by car, we are not far from several boutique wineries in and around Wollombi such as Cedar Creek and Undercliff wineries. We highly recommend them. There is also the Wollombi pub and the Laguna Wine Bar which both serve food and drink if you feel like socialising with the very friendly locals.

As the house is on 91 acres of bush, we also recommend bushwalking. Just go out the front door and follow several paths which wind around the house. There are some challenging hills and beautiful scenery around. Follow the ridge above the water tank behind the house and you will see a panoramic view of Laguna and Wollombi and the surrounding valleys.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook and serve a simple meal or an elaborate gourmet spread. You only need to bring along the food that you would like to cook. We also provide the essentials such as salt, pepper, spices and olive oil along with breakfast cereals, oatmeal, tea and coffee.

For chilly nights, there is a supply of kindling and firewood for the slow combustion oven.

  • "What a lovely find! This was a very relaxing and comfortable house with plenty of character and everything you need to enjoy your time in the bush. We enjoyed walking the flat trails around the house and all the bird/wildlife. The drive into the house makes a great track for a run on the mountain bike and 40 min of riding has you at the Wollombi pub - perfect! This property is highly reccomended for those looking to relax, chill and enjoy a peacful, comfortable environment with friends/family. "

  • "Just what we were looking for and so much more... Accommodation was clean and comfortable without being pretentious. Felt like we had walked into our own weekender - what a dream! We ventured into the centre of the hunter valley but also enjoyed the day spent more locally at Wollombi - a great little village complete with general store and friendly pub."

  • "If you're looking for a truly remote getaway this is the place. Nestled in the woods high on a hill, this was the peaceful getaway we were seeking. A lovely house with everything you need for a comfy weekend away. We'll definitely come back. Seth & Michelle"

  • "We loved our all too short holiday at this place. It's an elegant, fun and very relaxing solar house. You will need to consider the road in wet conditions. Would have been happier in a 4WD. However it all added to the pioneering spirit of our holiday. Fabulous house and exquisite decor..... Loved the crimson wall in the bathroom with the Chandelier and the claw foot bath! Five nights way too short - would have been happy with many more. Haven't been that relaxed in a long time."

  • "A great place to go for a weekend break, really felt like we had gotten away from it all. A lovely cottage, fantastically peaceful and really nicely finished place with everything you could want. Heartily recommend it and well be back "

  • "What an amazing place to get away from it all. We loved the Eco Friendliness of the property and the rustic feel, with all of the home comforts you would expect from your own home. It was great to sleep at night with the windows open with only the noise of the gentle North Easterly breeze that the house captures so well and awake feeling refreshed, and well rested. Only half an hours drive to all you need in the Hunter Valley, and only 10 mins to the beautiful town of Wollombi. We'd like to thank our hosts for such a great way to spend our wedding anniversaery and come home feeling like we'd been away for a couple of weeks, after only a couple of days. What a great place to stay and definitely recommended for those who want to escape and you can even take the kids if you want to spoil the ambiance....."

  • "What a wonderful eco friendly experience staying at this house was. You don't realise how much noise you have around you in the city till sit still and listen. Such tranquil surrounds and you feel merged with nature for a moment. The fire crackling away keeps you warm and toasty. Warm and thoughtfullly fitted out the house is immacuately clean and well thought out with lots of nooks to curl up and read a book or sit and listen to the silence or star up at the stars."

  • " We had a very enjoyable weekend. The house was comfortable and peaceful. We enjoyed tending the fire and listening to music. Our three year old particularly enjoyed playing with the toys found in the house. We took coffee in Wollombi and visited the local vineyards. And each time we left or returned to the house we spotted a fox or a roo. "
    Derek, May 2009

  • "Clean air, solitude, a cool breeze in the evening, and a porch that we essentially lived on... it was the perfect romantic escape that brought us the quiet we had been seeking. For those four days, Pemmenunna was like our own private treehouse, far removed from our usual Sydney madness. Likewise, your suggestions regarding the local boutique wineries and Lavender Gate Farm's lavender scones made our visit that much more special. I can't think of a better place in which to begin the New Year; thank you for allowing us the use of such a beautiful space... We hope our visit visit is not our last. -Caitlin and Russell"
