Woodside Retreat is perfect for couples or groups seeking a private escape in a tranquil parkland setting. This spacious, self-contained 4 bedroom house retains its original 1930s charm enhanced by a stylish renovation. Luxury features like a plasma TV, double spa bath and a contemporary stainless kitchen compliment the open fire and polished hardwood floors.

Nestled in the Wombat State Forest, frequently visited by friendly kookaburras, kangaroos and wombats, and located just an hour away from Melbourne in historic Blackwood. It is the perfect place to unwind, relax and reconnect with family and friends.

Accommodation

The Woodside Retreat features a large, comfortably furnished living area with an open fireplace and a plasma TV. The modern, fully equipped kitchen flows into the spacious dining area which seats 12 and opens onto a deck with uninterrupted views of the forest and the private tennis court. Built-in barbecue and deck furniture affords opportunity for outdoor cooking and dining.

In a quiet mood? The cosy library, with it’s own wood heater, is the perfect place for a little respite. Or you can relax in the double spa bath that overlooks beautiful forest views.

In a more active mood? The abundant grounds provide plenty of area to play tennis, basketball and volleyball, or kick the footy with the kids. Beautiful bush walks begin in the backyard on designated walking tracks.

Woodside sleeps up to 11 people. The two main bedrooms feature comfy queen size beds with electric blankets and built in robes. The third bedroom has a queen size bed and a single bed making it ideal for a couple with a small child. A fourth bedroom has two double bunks with blankets. Linen and towels are provided for the three main bedrooms.

Rates include sole use of the house and access to the floodlit multi purpose tennis court. Flexible check in and check out times are provided where available

What to do in the local area...

Historic Blackwood, once home to early settlers and gold prospectors, still has abundant riches to offer. Woodside Retreat is in fact built around an original timber prospector’s cottage. A few of these timber cottages still exist as a glimpse into our gold mining past.

Beautiful bush walks begin just outside the back door. The Lerderderg River runs at the rear of the property and if you are feeling energetic, you may want to discover one of the many designated walking tracks that follow the river as it meanders through forest.

Of course you may want to just stay at home and let nature come to you. Wombats and kangaroos are regular visitors and our abundant bird life includes friendly kookaburras.

There are some excellent culinary options in Blackwood. Lerdies on Martin Wine Bar and restaurant offers country style dining and local wines. The Blackwood Hotel provides excellent pub fare and a favourite with both locals and visitors is The Blackwood General Store, which provides gourmet treats for breakfast and lunch. There are also the traditional tearooms of Cobb and Co Tea Rooms and the garden of St Erth Café, one of Victoria’s more spectacular nurseries where Devonshire teas and tasty lunches are served in a garden setting.

Within 30 minutes you can be in Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Woodend or Mount Macedon making Blackwood an ideal base for a wide range of activities.
