With incredible views to Hanging Rock, SkyHouse Mount Macedon is what everyone imagines the perfect country house to be - two-storeys of self-contained indulgence for up to six people. Naturally, there is reverse-cycle air-conditioning to keep you cool in summer and warm in the cooler months, plus the added bonus of a wood fire to keep you really toasty!
SkyHouse is only 50 minutes from Melbourne (easy drive up the Calder Freeway), yet secluded in a tranquil bushland setting with kangaroos, echidnas and wombats your regular visitors. Less than five minutes will find you in Woodend (with its cafes, restaurants, shops and two great pubs), the village of Mt Macedon itself and Hanging Rock. 15 minutes away is Kyneton with its two one-hat restaurants and fabulous pub. There are numerous cellar doors within an easy drive.
SkyHouse also backs on to the Macedon Regional Park and there are wonderful walks from the house to Camels Hump, the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross and even Mount Macedon village itself. Jump in your car and the mystical Hanging Rock is only five minutes away with its walks, picnic grounds and horse racing track.
Mount Macedon is also renowned for its cool-climate, English-style gardens and there are various gardens open for public viewing. We also have two public golf courses within an easy drive at Woodend and Mount Macedon.
If you want good food, great scenery and a peaceful escape, SkyHouse is perfect. Great for families or two couples travelling together.
Pets will be considered by prior arrangement and agreement. A bond will need to be paid (or credit card details given) for all pet bookings.
Facilities at SkyHouse Mount Macedon
Downstairs: open full kitchen, dining room and lounge room (wood fire, RC A/C LCD TV, blueray DVD, iPod dock, stereo), bathroom (clawfoot bath), twin single bedroom, full laundry. Upstairs: two queen bedrooms (each with RC A/C), sunroom, balcony. Outdoors: BBQ, verandah, various outdoor eating areas, mini sports oval. Self-catering (basic pantry provisions provided).
As featured in The Age/Sydney Morning Herald "52 Weekends Away" Edition
SkyHouse Mount Macedon was chosen to be featured in The Age/Sydney Morning Herald's annual "52 Weekends Away" edition. Here is what they said:
"SkyHouse's exquisite view of Hanging Rock from the lounge, kitchen, deck and upstairs balcony is a magic that pervades this pristine double-storey holiday home, perched on the side of Mount Macedon and 10 minutes' drive from Woodend. With its spotless timber floors, impeccably stylish furnishings and three smartly appointed bedrooms - two with queen beds, the third with twin singles - SkyHouse is a great escape for families and groups of friends.
The generous gardens, which include a mini-sports oval complete with pétanque set, are ideal for slow summer evenings enjoying the ample birdlife and stunning views. In the heat of the day, retreat indoors to the air-conditioned comfort of the house, where the open-plan living space also provides an excellent viewing platform from which to enjoy Hanging Rock and the picturesque plains below. The fully equipped kitchen makes dinner for big groups easy, and there are three outdoor picnic tables, one of them under cover and next to a barbecue."

We stayed at Sky House for a family birthday weekend and loved it. You can't beat being cosy and warm by the fire watching the mist swirl around the mysterious Hanging Rock. It feels like you've properly escaped the rat race of every day life due to the location, but at the same time you're so close to so many good locations (Kyneton/Woodend/Daylesford)...though we're not sure why you would want to leave...we stayed put & relaxed :) Pay attention to the directions they give you...easier to find using their directions than making it up as you go along like we did :P

We thoroughly enjoyed our winter escape for the week. I was looking for a retreat where I could put my feet up, drink some wine & enjoy some family time. It was a great place to get away from my business & forget about it. Sky house did the trick. We only ventured out twice during the time we were there, & relaxed the whole time in front of the roaring fire. Scones, jam, & cream, with a pot of tea & coffee seemed to taste just divine up there while looking at the the beautiful view, & watching the early fog roll through the hills. We really enjoyed the homely feel of the cottage and would highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying up there, especially if they have a dog as our Kelpies loved the large grassed area and spent much of their time chasing sticks & balls and slept the whole way home!!

Close to Woodend town centre but far enough out for pure peace and tranquilly. I would highly recommend to anyone to spend time in this stunning part of our great country. This house was particularly well-appointed. It was important to us to have a well-equipped kitchen, as cooking was a big part of our time away, and everything that we needed was provided.
There were so many books and magazines and games, that the cold weather didn't worry us at all. All 6 of us commented upon how comfortable the beds were.
We arrived after dark and in pouring rain, but we were able to access the key very easily, due to the good instructions.
We had two negatives:a second toilet would have been good and the gas burners were very challenging for our daughter cooking pancakes on the Sunday. It was extremely slow.
Overall, though, the house was spacious, light, airy and warm and we were very happy there.

Wonderful house - fantastic views, and it had great energy. It was a cold weekend, and we thought it might have been made more cozy if there were drapes to keep the cold out and the warmth of the heater in. Lovely kitchen to work in and it was a nice touch with all the bits and pieces that were available to use. Once we found the wood shed (!) we were able to sustain a great fire - which added to the warmth and the atmosphere. Lovely region to explore and the Woodend Winter Festival was a fantastic event to attend - so close to the house.

We absolutely loved our stay at Skyhouse. The house itself is gorgeous and had everything we needed, including plenty of cooking equipment, a good selection of DVD's, and a lovely wood fire to sit by at night. The location is terrific - so traquil and relaxing - and the view over Hanging Rock is sublime. Plenty to see & do in the area as well, especially for wine & food lovers. Our only very minor quibble is that with 6 people only one bathroom can be a little annoying at times. Just a toilet upstairs would be ideal. But that is the only thing we could possibly complain about in such a fabulous place to stay. Highly recommended!

Our stay at Skyhouse was everything we were hoping it would be, warm, comfortable, relaxing and destressing. The views were dramatic and changed constantly, the birds and wildlife kept us entertained, we even managed to see a couple kangaroos. We might have to save a trip for Summer, and spend more time outside and take advantage of some of the walks and even play some games with the kids in the garden, as it was very cold over our three day stay, though we were extremely content with playing boardgames in front of the fire instead. Thanks again for a lovely place to stay!!

Although we arrived in the dark of night, we found the house easily and soon worked out where the lights were!
Although it was cold outside, the morning view was spectacular. The wood fire warms the whole house, and the beds are well equipped to keep you cozy through the night too.
The kitchen is brilliantly set out, with heaps of room, bench space and a very capable oven and cooktop.

Wow, what a place! Beautifully decorated, very well equipped with everything you could possibly need and the views - magnificent! We had a great time lounging in the morning sun that streams through the windows, or on the secure, gated decking (perfect for toddlers and our dog). The small fenced yard next to the house was perfect for containing our dog in a place he could be close enough to the action indoors. Given how cold it was outside, the slow combustion log fire heated the house up beautifully (even the upstairs rooms!). We will would definitely recommend Skyhouse to family and friends.

The house was great - perfect for our requirements. We go away for weekends often and I would put this place in the top 3 houses we have stayed in over the past 10 years. Great atmosphere and the smaller things can make a difference e.g. having the fire ready to use and firewood easily accessable, the little gift etc. The house was spotless which helps you sit and relax in comfort. The autumn garden is magnificient - looking out with the fire into the garden was very peaceful and beautiful.

The view of Hanging Rock from the lounge room and kitchen is made all the better by the verandah that opens off these rooms. I have stayed in many weekend rental holiday homes over the years and this is by far the best. The smallest details have been thought of and catered for. It might seem a small thing but even items such as a baking dish and potato masher are there. The beds are superbly comfortable and nothing beats an open fire to add warmth and ambience. The fantastic drought resistant gardens and realtive isolation of SkyHouse only make it more appealling. SkyHouse can be whatever you want it to be, be that a weekend or midweek escape, romance, bushwalking, chilling or fine dining this is the place for all of this. I will most certainly be back

returning with friends.

I loved it!
Sprectacular view, beautifully furnished and spacious accomodation with everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away!
If your're looking for something very special then I highly recommend the SkyHouse for your next holiday.
