Description

On a hill overlooking the estuary is our sanctuary: 'Amárach' -a beautiful family house which accommodates 9 and an adjacent detached cottage which sleeps 2 (+2). Surrounded by semi-tropical fruit trees, grasses and flowers, bathed in sun, embedded in a micro-climate teeming with wildlife it is a magical place. The house is well equipped with a modern kitchen (with unforgettable views over the inlet and beach), television, DVD player, and an audio hifi system. A fabulous deck with sunbeds sweeps around the house affording magnificent uninterrupted seaand lagoon views. There is a lovely loggia for al fresco dining – perfect for the sundowner after the evening swim and stroll back from romantic Moon Bay. Visitors have free use of the Bentley. Sadly this is not a limousine but a good ole piano! Covered parking is available to the rear.
'Tara' is the adjacent self-contained cottage. It has been newly refurbished for 2010 and has a fully-equipped kitchen, double bedroom and a large sofa bed. There is a television for playing DVDs and CD/radio. Outside the cottage has its own decking with sunloungers overlooking the magical view of the Mogareeka inlet.
In the pretty garden on the hill facing the sea, there are secluded sunbathing areas and a restful bower with hammock for reading and relaxing. The air is full of birdsong and the scent of jasmine, lemon, orange and lime trees completes the picture of wholesome serenity.

Out and about

Amárach is a perfect location for everything from a romantic relaxing holiday with a beautiful bell bird soundtrack, to an exciting family adventure. Activities on your doorstep include surfing, scuba diving, whale watching, rock climbing, cycling, wakeboarding, windsuring, kite surfing, water-skiing, canoeing, river, shore and deep sea fishing, sea-kayaking and prawning. Tathra is a lovely seaside village with a good choice of places to eat, a great delicatessen, wonderful cleanskins in Tathra Cellars (Helen is a great wine guide), a laundry, a post-office, good grocery stores, beach shops, fishing gear, surfboard, kayak and bicycle hire. Reef fishing charters are available all year round.
3km from the house is the beautiful Nelson's lagoon with it's great surfing beach.

  • "We returned to Amarac'h for the second year in a row. It is truly a beautiful, tranquil spot. The house is light and airy, filled with morning sun. Mixed weather with some cooler showery days did not spoil our stay. There was plenty to do outdoors, and abundant room indoors with enough quiet corners for all. The changing views looking out over the bush, estuary and sea are enchanting. Good for the soul."

  • "We loved our time at Amarach. It was tranquil, with a well laid out house and cottage which enabled each guest to find a secluded spot. The views across the lagoon towards the sea were breathtaking. The decor was very pleasant, and the kitchen was a pleasure to prepare meals in. We thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay, particularly if you are attracted to the nearby Mimosa National Park, which is only a stones throw away."

  • "After spending ages looking for a great beach-house to rent for the weekend we found Amarach. With its massive deck, close proximity to the beach and gorgeous views it seemed perfect and after a weekend there it definitely was. With about 9 of us in a group it was well laid out and spacious enough for all of us plus a dog! We had almost all our meals on the bbq sitting on the deck enjoying the sunshine and a beer or two. In the evenings the house was great for just lounging around chatting, playing board-games and catching the rugby on austar! It was a great getaway to the coast and we will definitely love to come back again!"

  • "The perfect family holiday. House itself very homely with heaps of space (kids can be separated!) and well-equipped, especially kitchen, although we mainly used the barbie on the deck enjoying serene views over the ocean. The garden is like a bird sanctuary (especially as Red Hot Pokers were in bloom everywhere) and Mimosa Rocks National Park is literally next door. Morning walks through the park down to the magnificent (and deserted) Moon Bay were a highlight, although all the nearby beaches have something to offer. Tathra is great for boogie-boarding, and the local fare was suprisingly good: great pizzas & a great bakery right opposite the beach. Would also recommend Fat Tony's (near Tathra Wharf) for dinner. Would have been happy to spend each day lazing around Mogareeka, although enjoyed small trips north to Bermagui and south to Eden (love the oysters!). While we spent most hours at the beach, the kids were happy that Austar was installed, especially as they are soccer fans. Didn't get to use the spa bath (too busy swimming) or get out on the river in kayaks this time around... but certainly plan to come back to this wonderful slice of heaven. "
